Boss CH-1 Super Chorus
Wisely billed as a “Contemporary Chorus,” this Boss unit seems to either be hated or loved by chorus freaks out there. While it doesn’t have nearly as much warm personality as the older Boss CE-1 or CE-2 chorus units, it’s still a pretty cool pedal that provides a very light, transparent, and watery sounding chorus. It has a tendency to border on the generic side so I’m sure 80s cover bands, smoov’ R n’ B types and sensitive New-Agers will flip over the pristine sounds the CH-1 delivers. It really does seems to perform best when played through bright amps and clean guitars. The addition of an helpful EQ knob racks up a few bonus points for tonal manipulation and should appeal to the all-around gigger. Because of its ultra-slick and almost clinical sound, we’ve seen the CH-1 in many keyboardist’s rigs over the years. This goes without saying, but running the CH-1 in stereo is a true treat and should impress even the most jaded gear snobs. My advice is to try before buying to see if this pedal will meet your modulation needs.
