Gear Reviews – Analog Delay – Boss DM-2 Delay – Echo – September 21, 2011 – 0 Comments
Boss DM-2 Analog Delay
An outstanding 3 knob analog delay from the early 80s. This classic pedal has got everything you’d want in an analog delay: beautiful dark liquid delays, buttery and the warm lo-fi repeats and a nice round top end. The delay time is fairly short (300 mlliseconds), but with a bit of tweaking you can get a lot of sonic mileage out of the DM-2. Mild twiddling yields some cool surf-like slapbacks and bathroom wall type reverberations, while harsher setting call up all kinds of Syd Barret-like atmospherics. When the regeneration/feedback is pegged, the DM-2′s sensational self-oscillation is great for bizarre sci-fi weirdness and crazy runaway wildness. For bread and butter uses, the DM-2 produces a soft and squishy delay that it blends into your overall sound in a very musical ways. This musicality is what keeps people paying through the nose for these things on the used market. Even with these little buggers fetching some big dollars on places like Ebay, you can still spot them at local shops and off Craigslist for anywhere between $150 and $200.
