Gear Reviews – Boss PN-2 Tremolo / Pan – Panner – Tremolo – September 27, 2011 – 0 Comments
Boss PN-2 Tremolo / Pan
This very cool collectible was produced in the early 90s and then sadly discontinued only a few years later. You basically have your choice between 2 different tremolo modes and two different panning modes. In each of these two modes you have the abilitiy to select between the classic square or sine wave. The tremolo section sounds fantastic in either mode but the Vox-like helicopter choppiness of the square wave setting always made us the happiest. The sine is better suited for mimic’ing the traditional Fender tremolo. This pedal sounds wonderful in mono but throw another amp on-stage and you’ve got pure spacial heaven. Our only complaint with the PN-2 is that the usable range of the tremolo’s rate was really only found in the last 10-20 percent of the pedal’s turn. The lowest rate was practically glacial that should please anyone who loves super slow swells. The newer Boss TR-2 Tremolo fixed this “rate” issue but isn’t it about time for a new Boss tremolo with some newer and wilder variations? A tap-tempo option would on the top of my wish list.
