so, does this mean a transformer change? What I'm going for is more power tube saturation at lower volumes without a change in the fundamental tone, but a higher power tube seems like that would do the opposite. I've been experimenting with a friend's jmp-1 and using the 'power amp in' on my laney 50w, and it's like each part of the equation has a particular character. I guess it's the same in any "master volume" scenario, but anyway, what I'm trying to capture is almost like a warmer presence that I get when the power tubes are really cooking that doesn't affect the actual tone so much, but seems to make it fill out a room better. It's not volume.....it's like an acoustical illusion of volume. maybe i'm just chasing tone too much.....but it's just so organic sounding when I have the preamp barely cranked and the final volume stage is wide open.
