the japanese stuff is typically of a higher quality, but i'll say that i've got a 2008 MIM tele (custom shop, mind you...) and it plays phenomenally. it also sounded great out of the box, but i knew i was going to mod the pickups, so playability was my main factor of interest.
anyways, you should try and play them before you buy, 'cause really it's impossible to know otherwise. on principle, the japanese should be better, but principles are for ethics and philosophy class, not guitars.
