What operating system (Windows vs Mac? 32-Bit or 64-Bit? And what version?)
First concern is to find out if the interface manufacturer has good driver support for your DAW. From there, you want to search through the
DAW's user forum for recommendations...
Personally, I'm a long-time SONAR user (by Cakewalk). There is a well documented history in the Sonar forum from folks like me who use Alesis' Firewire interfaces. Using the proper firewire chipset takes care of this for most of us. But more importantly, my guess is that most daw forums will agree on the best interfaces for a given price range.
So the answer is really this, you're asking the wrong forum!!!
