Dunno, really. I managed to get great tones from a Fender SS amp and a DS1 (yes ,it is possible !) or a Rat, so even if my gear wasn't great, my tone was. In the last 6 months i've really upgraded my gear, so i suppose it would be since i got my Sovtek head.
But anyway, i've seen loads of guitar players with great big Marshall Stacks, PRS guitars and loads of pedals, and they still sounded like ****.
It's all about your playing abilities and your ear for good tone in the end ...
