If you plan on modifying the guitars with EMG pickups, why don't you get an Eclipse made by either LTD or ESP. Some of their models are pretty top notch and come pre fitted with either EMG 81s or Seymour Duncan JB/59s. The good ones cost about as much as or less than a top shelf Epiphone and a hell of a lot less than any Gibson.
