I can't vouch for the TS9, but I love my Bad Monkey, and most people say the Monkey gets darn close to the Tubescreamer tone. Plus, it has High and Low EQ controls, whereas the TS9 only has one EQ control. The Monkey's a better value, unless you think the TS9 sounds better to your ears. Definately A/B them.
EDIT: But after reading the original question again, a clean boost would probably be preferrable for a more 'natural' tone.
