Before I go ripping up my speakers...

Could I just check with you guys as I'm a little nervous of ruining my Mesa's amp section...

I can run my Bass through a Guitar combo at high volume as long as the speaker's disconnected and the power section's reconnected to a Bass cab, yes? I've just been asked to tour with a Metal band and haven't played Bass at high volume for about 4 years now. Damn I miss the rumble!

I'm planning to utilise the twin channels of my Mesa for Clean/Dirt along with a few pedals for some in-between grit and all out fuzz. I don't want a stereotypical 'Metal' Bass tone a la Jason Newstead that gets lost. Any advice on cutting but not being honky?

Any help would be appreciated, especially on the former question!

bass frequencies won't hurt the circuitry in a guitar amp, just the speakers (at high volume).
So if you use different speakers, you should be safe.

Thanks. Glad to hear that, because at low volume my Mesa Rocket with Bass through it sounds like happiness personified. Just gotta build me some cabs with my old speakers and find out where in Enger-land this tour is actually stopping...

Thanks again - AlunJRoberts

They're called Guerrilla Monsoon. Think their myspace is forward slash that name. Their Bassist just left so I'm helping out for a while in between recording my www.myspace.com/sheafson album There's talk of them doing Nottingham Rock City which I heard is a good venue. I really need to find out more info about this tour...

Well, there are some cases described in which the output transformer did give up when a bass was played through it. But I never experienced it in real life

Ever heard of it happening in a Mesa Boogie or would it more likely be in some lower-end amps? I do hope so...

I'd advise just buying a cheap bass amp and take the mesa with you for a backup, most venues are going to DI you anyway so the amp sound isn't that important and I find it's always better to play it safe.
