Fender Bassman 300
None of my local shops have one for testing, so I was wonder how these are.
I'm in the market for a bass head (eventually), and there's a couple tones I'd love to be able to get.
Peter Hook is one of my favorite bass players.
I know he uses some old stuff (Alembic F2-B valve preamp and a Crown Power amp into 2 15" speakers) and has used the same stuff forever (he said he's used that set up with New Order for nearly 25 years in an interview I read).
Carlos D from Interpol is another bass player I really dig. I know he just uses an SVT with an 8x10 or two.
Robert Turner (the guy from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) had a sick sound on the first two albums (as well as when I saw them live in 2003), and I believe he also uses an SVT of some sort with a boatload of effects.
The bass tone on the Arcade Fire's "Funeral" album is pretty slick too.
I'm also into John Entwhistle's sound and John Cale had an awesome tone of the first couple Velevet Underground albums.
I hear this amp is pretty versatile and I'm not one to copy my heroes exactly, I just want to be able to get similar sounds as a base guide. Can this baby do this kind of stuff? It's a helluva lot cheaper than an Ampeg too.
