Whatever you can beg, borrow, or steal! Thats all you need for punk! Sheesh, punk cred is a joke anyway.

Just like indie cred. Who cares if you use 40 or 400 or 4000 dollar amp/guitar? If you make good music with it, it doesn't matter.

The Stooges used AC-30's, therefore, using the law of silogism, AC-30's = punk cred.

Marshalls are the punk amp. Hardcore was formed by punk rockers wanting something harder sounding and infusing metal into their music. Hell too many people use a marshall though. I was just offerd one last week and said I'd buy a marshall head the day I get head. So overcomercialized

This whole thread makes me want to vomit. I hate to be a **** & put up a negative post, but today's "punk" simply isn't punk. It's a bunch of idiots wearing a certain type of clothes, hairstyles, piercings, & tats. I was never a punk, but I grew up when real punk was in it's heyday. Although I wasn't much of a fan, I could really appreciate the whole concept & get behind the mentality. The whole freaking point was to do something so different from everything else going on & shake up the mainstream that it didn't matter what it sounded like or looked like, as long as it was DIFFERENT.
The morons today just don't get it. A certain type of amp, clothes, or even musical style don't mean you are a punk. Real punk would never get played on the radio or get nominated for a grammy. Today's so called punk is simply a different type of pop music in a different costume. The sheer fact that many of these guys can actually play well goes against the entire spirit. It may not be bad music, but it certainly IS NOT PUNK!!! It's a travesty to pretend that it is. Heck, I even heckled the Sex Pistols on their sell out reunion tour because they had become a mockery of themselves by sounding extremely polished & being unabashedly in it for the money. I saw that dork drummer from Blink 182 in the local mall here in Cleveland the other day. He's the epitomy of what I'm talking about. I wanted to spit in his face & call him out for what he really is, but he was surrounded by 12 year old girls. Maybe I'm just jealous of his Playboy wife, but if it was Sid Vicious, or Jello Biafra in their prime, I can guarantee that 12 year olds in Britney Spears t-shirts would be running in fear in disgust, not batting their eyelashes like lovesick puppies. That, my friends, was punk. |

Run your guitar through a blender and mic it.
Thats about as good as all these 'punk poser' high school asses run. A cheap squier through a solid state that their mom found at a garage sale. But those kick ass clothes that they wear and the millions of stickers they stuck all over their guitar just makes it all so hard core that it doesn't matter. Play what YOU think sounds good, don't buy something for a name of if it looks punk. Play what you like.

You guys are all getting the wrong idea...
the amp that's the most "punk" would be a solid-state Marshall head that was STOLEN from your local mom & pop music store, running it's speaker outputs to the INPUT JACK of another amp (LMAO) and playing a guitar your mom got you for Christmas 10 years ago (which now has every single inch of paint covered with stickers by the Ramones, The Clash, and the Velvet Underground) P.S. the last band was in there just for fun.
