another amp for stereo rig

just an idea at the moment but i'm thinking about getting a stereo rig together. i'm currently using a fender pro reverb just wondering what amps other people would thinking would sound nice alongside?

i was considering a tweed blues junior on top

I have no recommendations for amp selection (I run 70's Fender silverface Twin, and a 100-Watt Marshall Plexi Re-Issue). Both are very clean, loud, and dialed in to a fairly similar sound. Others will tell you to sele3ct amps that are more complementary (ie one has lots of good bass & treble, the other has a nice midrange bite).

But... whatever amps you end up with, be sure to keep a watchful eye on polarity.

Be sure you work slowly/carefully, and add one amp/pedal/processor at a time and check polarity as you go. You'd be surprised at how many effects generate a "stereo" image through a clever polarity inversion. These inversions can cancel out a good chunk of your signal.

I strongly recommend putting something like the ART Tube MP before the input of one amp so you can A/B you various polarity settings as you add effects.

And now that you're going stereo, it's probably worth it to read up on "electrical" polarity and how it affects your signal chain, as well as "comb-filtering" and how the room dimensions and amp locations can cause ugly cancellations in your sound.

I'm looking at doing exactly the same thing and thought it was as simple as throwing a Whirlwind ABY box in front of a few amps! Now that I've read GMGM's post, it seems there is an art to it! More research required... Still, my ultimate stereo rig would be a really clean amp combined with a crunchier amp; let's say a Marshall JCM900 and a Roland Jazz Chorus. Dean DeLeo used a Vox AC30 clean and a 'Demeter TGP-3 three-channel preamp, a Rocktron Intelliverb and a VHT Classic stereo tube power amp that runs 50 watts per side into two Marshall 4x12 cabinets' which creates a really nice contrast on stage!

Well, hopefully you guys can learn from my mistakes!

I'm an electronics guy - I like to bend/build/modify circuits of all types. But there's nothing more frustrating then getting an awesome sounding stereo rig going, then kicking on a stereo reverb pedal and whoosh , all your power is gone. So you make a little inverter to fix the problem, and you're back to rocking. Then you kick up a stereo delay pedal, and whoosh, all your power is gone again. Or worse, you get all those bugs worked out, until you kick on two or three pedals at a time, and whoosh...

So, for what it's worth, you can save yourself alot of headaches by sending one amp your dry signal (with any overdrive, EQ, dynamics or envelope type effects). And then sending a wet mono signal to your 2nd amp.

Once you get those issues worked through, it is quite breathtaking. Of this I am certain. I would be stereo 24x7 if it didn't mean lugging two of the most back-breaking amps on the planet from gig to basement every week.

This all makes my M13 sooo much more attractive to me. I'm going to go home and give it a big sloppy kiss.

I recently was just messing around with my Pro Junior at practice and sent the out from my pedalboard to it, while splitting my guitar signal from my TU-2 and going straight into my main amp. It was amazing, and so much fun! Fully delayed/reverbed/spaced out sound coming from the pro junior, but perfectly clean tone from the Soldano (and mind blowing combos when I switched to the dirty channel layered with the effected Pro Junior).

Its made me seriously consider another Pro Junior or similar small combo to run a stereo rig. Hell, maybe a wet/dry/wet rig with two pro juniors for stereo effects and a main amp that stays dry and channel switches. The possibilities are limited only by how much **** you're willing to haul around.

I have a Headrush E2 and love the simulated tape delay with 4 outs. Trouble is I only have one amp.

I have a Blues Jr w/ Cannabis Rex. For additional amps I'm thinking one or two of the following:

Egnater Tweaker
Orange Tiny Terror
Peavey Classic 30
NOS Blues Jr.
Emerald Blues Jr.
Champ 600

@GMGM This is something I thought about, but I also liked the idea of off-setting two delays on separate amps. How would I prevent this 'power loss'?

I can vouch for the Orange Tiny Terror combo as one of the best sounding amps I've ever heard! It kicks the crap out of any more expensive Orange amps I've heard, since it gets that power-tube saturation real easy for massive gain! The Peavey Classic 30 is also a wonderful amp, it's got a really nice Fender quality to it, ideal for bluesy-overdrive and chiming cleans; in the studio where I work, these are the amps we use for recording the most... the Marshall JCM2000 gets no love. If you like the tone of the Orange but it can't compete volume wise (which I've never had a problem with, but then again, I don't own a Fender amp ), the Orange Dual Terror head is perfect! I demoed the 'Fat Channel' in a stoner rock jam the other day and it kicked ass, beating out a incredibly hard hitting drummer in terms of volume; used the 'Tiny Terror' channel on some acoustic lounge pop and it held up incredibly well! In fact, I'd love to use the Dual Terror for gain and a Roland for cleans- stereo goodness!
