Anyone using Red Fangs?

So really I want a Dr. Z. BUT... in the slow economy, nobody is buying my stuff so I can afford one. Plan B: Upgrade the blues deluxe. I'm thinking a speaker change and a set of JJ tubes might do the trick. I heard a hot rod deluxe a while back with JJ's and that thing rocked! I'm looking at the Red Fang speaker. I've heard some pretty good things about them but as always I like to ask you guys what you think. I haven't personally heard one and I'm always skeptical of online demos. So... let me know what ya think! Is it a good fit for this amp, etc.?

i also have a blues deluxe, and put one of the texas heats in it instead. i really like it! big fat bottom and good upper mids. it's a very fat sound with lots of headroom to get pushed by my pedals. it has an SRV character to it, IMHO, not that i can necessarily play quite like him!

i guess it depends on the sound you're after. the eminence site is really good for their sound samples. speakers are one of those things that, unless you can hear it in your amp, it'll be impossible to get a perfect impression of. even then, you have to break them in adequately before they really respond properly! really think about the sound you want, see what speaker comes closest, and then you're probably good.

definite +1 on the retube... preamp or power? i ended up doing both eventually, and they both made a world of difference.

Dead thread, I know. But I finally got the Red Fang and have played with it for a few days. Here's my review:

At first I hated it. Very trebly and ice-picky highs especially through my strat. After tinkering with it though, I'm really starting to love it. I had to completely re-adjust my amp's EQ and after finding the sweet spot, the speaker really came to life. I've played on it for probably about 8 hours since I got it and I can already hear it beginning to smooth out. The clean tones are much more full and round and... strange as this sounds I hear the biggest difference when I kick in the tube screamer. Much more harmonically rich and lush. Very musical.

I'm happy with the choice as of now, especially considering the deal I got on it. Now... if I can just figure out what's rattling around inside the amp....
