Bassman 2x15 power handling!

Hey all.
my question:
I own a 1968 Fender Bassman 2x15 cab, and it sounds great, especially for bass.
My bassist has been using it for recording with an old JCM 800 head at moderate volume (Read: not loud enough to compete with a drummer)
He can't use the JCM 800 for our live stuff since he was just borrowing it from a friend who's concerned about damaging the head from the bass frequencies.
Anyways, he's brought in his own head for live stuff. It's a Behringer Ultra Bass 450 watt solid state head which sounds suprisingly good. My question is, Can my Bassman cab handle his head? I'm worried about damaging the speakers as they were originally intended for use with a 50 watt tube head.
Thanks!

DON'T use this cab with the Behringer head. It will certainly damage the speakers (If they are original). The Behringer heads have 'Ultra Bass' a bottom end extender and are notorious for blowing up speaker cabs that are rated at even 450 W R.M.S.

Now I'm not saying you couldn't plug it in and make a little bit of noise but it would be really iffy.

You need a modern speaker (system) which is rated at least at the output of the head (450W).

thanks, that's too bad..
He has his own speaker cab, but unfortunatly he doesn't have a car yet and his parent's are not too keen on hauling it to my house and back every saturday. and they are also not happy with leaving it here because it's the biggest purchase he's made in his life.
Would a 50 watt JCM 800 be able to hold it's own for bass in a band situation and not be damaged? (provided it's used through the bassman cab)

Edit: wow, figured out why I have log in troubles and my post count freaked out... apparently I have two profiles.. I think I forgot my log in name and made a new one

A JCM800 50W will work fine for a practice bass amp. It certainly won't hurt the head. Whether it is loud enough to get over a loud drummer......

Thank you, yea thats what I was wondering cause he'd be using the low sensitivity input .
Our drummer is very loud, he makes up for it by being very good at drumming.

You really have to just worry about the speakers. I don't think that bass frequencies can hurt a head by themselves, although I doubt it's gonna be loud enough. 50 watts isn't very much for bass, and the fact that it's a guitar head means that it's not gonna reproduce those frequencies very faithfully.
