Battle of the small tube amps!

So I went to Toronto's "classy" independently owned guitar shop and tested my "college amp" candidates. The Fender Blues Junior, The Ampeg Superjet and the Traynor YCV20.

The Blues Junior came out on top because of it's beautiful clean tones, it's compact size, it's ability to sound good when played quietly (a must for dorm room use), and it's ability to go loud as all hell.

The other two were good but not as impressive as the Blues Junior. The Ampeg could get through life on looks alone though, it's beautiful.

The Traynor didn't impress me as much as I'd hoped it would. It also wasn't basic enough. I'm looking for something SUPER straightforward and it doesn't get much simpler than the BLues Junior.

I really like my blues jr. You'll have problem's controlling the volume at lower levels, though, because the control's a bit touchy down there. get a volume pedal to put between your effects and amp.

by the way, there's a blues jr. with a super cheap buy-it-now on ebay right now. 299.99 doesn't get much better than that.

well the traynor is a much better amp, but whatever you like.

And please don't tell me the guitar store you visited was Steve's.... I hope that place burns down... I utterly despise the nitwits that work there....

and their prices.

i'd go for the superjet. i loooove fender amps, but that ampeg just has so much more style...

though the blond blues junior is a good candidate for the 'hot as hell' category.

I am sorry to say but hte new traynors, I felt, stunk. Out of those, I think the ampeg is the best sounding, followed by the fender.

I own a pair of vintage Guitarmates(One stock with reverb one modded without 'verb) and they will smoke any of the modern traynors for clean tones.

And, seriously, am I the only person on earth who has had good services and all steve and songbirds? The guys in toronto were super nice and helpful(I was asking **** like where to get gigs, etc. Not even gear questions), and the guys who work at both songbird and steves in ottawa are really nice for the most part.

Long and McQuade can burn for all I care, they are overpriced and the salesmen are a bunch of c*nts.

And to Village, try finding a H&K in canada. It doesn't happen
