metal....blues...clean......

i think one of the best choices is the peavey xxx super 40 ...40 all tube watts check out HC for some reviews http://www.harmony-central.com/Guita...2_Combo-1.html they're aournd 850 new.....so they might be in your budget if it's used.....

3 channel (rythm/crunch have shared eq's)....each channel has own reverb.....it's a hell of an amp....haha just my opinion

They stopped making them new, but a Reverend Hellhound is a a 15 watt amp with a 5 watt switch and has 3 channels and reverb. Clean, British distortion and American distortion. It was specifically designed to be a practice amp. It doesn't have footswitching, you will have to reach for the panel. But they are good amps and sound great. Hard to find though.

I would suggest a Jcm 2000 tsl602. Its a 2x12 all tube combo marshall. It has 3 channels, clean, crunch, and lead. The clean is very nice, the crunch is bluesy, and the lead lately I have been getting some good van halen tones out of it.
Its a versatile amp too because it has a master volume so you can play it at respectable levels in the house but still get a good sound. Some people say that amp is too trebly on the lead channel but I think they had the presence on too high. I have my amp set Presence - 0 , Master volume - 8/10, Gain - 5, Treble 5, Mid - 4, Bass, 4 volume to desired level.
I also got a midrange boost with dano fish n chips.

However this amp might be out of your price range right now.
It is a great amp though

The Mercury Carr is anothe bedroom tube amp. Built in attenuator. Pricey. Also, there is this British company that makes an 8 watt Marshall Plexi, Cornford Harlequin. Go to their website they have GREAT sound clips. www.cornfordamps.com. Pricey that one too.

Marshall JCM 800 4210 50watt 1x12 2 channel combo $600

I've got a 2210 I love, just don't need this one anymore.

I have a Traynor YCV 50 Blue, I just put the high gain JJ retube kit from Eurotubes in it and all I can tell you is is FLAT OUT SCREAMS! The clean channel is zestfully clean, and the gain channel just growls like a mean old Marshall, kick in the amp's boost and I'm getting near Recto gain levels. All at LIVINGROOM volumes. Like you I don't do the band thing anymore so I also got rid of my Dual Recto and JCM 800s, and being spoiled on big amps it took me a long time to find a decent small combo. Try one, you'll like it!

The little Ampeg Jet sounds unreal. When it overdrives it gets "breathy". What a unique sound. Great cleans, wonderful reverb, nice tremelo and that breathy overdrive. I don't know what it would sound like with distortion pedals. But what a treat to play that little thing. Definitely unique signature sound. AMPEG. Cool looking.

Frankly, a Fender Blues Jr comes close, no metal tones, you would have to get a pedal. It has a gain knob, master volume setup. Quite good. I moved on to better stuff but kept mine, because it sounds so good. It can get pretty gainy and sound good at low volumes. Doesn't actually have channels, you have to knob it.

I don't know of any small tube combos that have high gain metal tones similar to a Rectifier, but there are LOTS of small tube combos that sound great and you can get metal sound with a pedal.

A Fender Hot Rod Deluxe has channels and can be had for in your budget, used. High gain, but not really metal. Sort of a louder Blues Jr. but does have channels. If I were you, I'd try it. It meets your specs, used under 600, two channels.

A used Marshall Jcm2000, DSL401 combo has two channels and some people like them. Modern Marshall sound. In your price range used. Marshalls are getting expensive!

I am sure there are more. Channel concep is not that common on small combos, most people use pedals. But the small tube combos sound great! Get one! You will be pleased.
If you go the fender route, try the deville when you try the deluxe.A few more bucks,10 watts, seemed to make a big dif.2 12,s or 4 10,s,the two twelves seemed to be voiced right.Warm and clean on the blues side, can't beat a fender tremolo, the gain side was really crisp.Coming out of this 72 330 tdc,I was really happy wiyh it.And I've always been a Mesa Guy.I,m in the middle of settin up two dual rec,s and 4 black shadow 12,s now.Thats how I just happened on this website or whatever you call it.panhead

Only to realize those pedals were hooked up to the bass!
