Dr. Z 1x12 or 2x10?

I've decided that I'm going to get a Dr. Z Maz 18 jr. in the next month or two, but I'm not sure whether or not to go with the 1x12 or 2x10 configuration. I'm leaning towards 2x10 since I'll still have my HRD, but I just don't know.

What do you think, or what would be the benefits of either config?

The one 12 configuration is going to have more bass, but not as defined highs (this is kind of relative to the kind of speakers you are using, but let's say you've got the same speakers in both amps, just different sizes, yeah?). A 12 is definately going to have more of a rumble behind it. I liked the Maz 18 1 12' I played a while back. It was pretty awesome. 2 10's are going to be a bit more punchy with not as much low end and more mid range. 10's also are going to be a bit more crunchy too, which is in part due to the added emphasis in the mids and upper mids. I think you should try each one out and see what one really sparks your interest.
Cheers!
Travis

I do pedal mods. I build amps. You should get one built for you.
If it's too loud, you're too old.

And here's all my gear.

And my band

I pretty much agree with everything Travis said.

On an unrelated note- what is the EHX Soul Preacher?

travis thanks for the help.

stratocast, the soul preacher is a compressor/treble boost. mine's from the mid 70's. it's a very noisy box and colors the tone a bit, but i really like the way it does.

I'd ask Dr. Z myself. He seems very interested in making sure his customers get the tone/sound they want from his amplifiers. Some of his amplifiers are designed with a particular cabinet in mind, such as the Carmen Ghia.

Of course the ideal, and rather expensive, solution is to run a 1x12 extension cabinet from a 2x10 combo

One plus to going with the 2x10 is that you can have two different speakers. If you can pick two speakers that compliment each other, you can get a really thick sound.
