Just got done building my 1st cab
All I can say is its alot more time consuming then I thought it would be but over all im pretty happy with the sound. Its a 2x12 can with two clestions gt12-75's 16ohms wired 8ohms out.Im also currently building a 4x12 that I was going to run vintage 30's and gt-75's like a bogner cab but Now I think ive found im going to stick just vintage vintage 30's since it has more bass and depth. Also worth mentioning that the speakers are front loaded insted of rear loaded like mesa cabs.I find this has made the gt-75's alot brighter than in marshall cabs. The cab sounds pretty good and all in all im pretty happy with a cab that only cost me $150 in parts. Here is a parts list and what it took to make it.
1. $100 for new gt-75's off ebay with shipping 2. $35 1 sheet of 11-ply 3/4 birch 3. $0.42 blank single gang wall plate for input jack 4. $1.59 switchcraft 11 1/4 mono speaker jack 5. $2.00 tube of liquid nails 6. $8.00 Metal cab handels $147.01 or $150 with tax for a mesa built spec clestion cab for gigs playing around the house or whatever. You could add an extra $25 for grill cloth and tolex if you like. |

sweet, ive always wanted to build my own cab but never have had enough money to do it. Im pretty confident in my carpentry and electrical skills but i still worry about not getting a satisfactory result out of it, even if it is based off another cab that has already been proven to sound good. Handbuilt is totally different from a factory cab. Im pretty sure they dont have a bunch of guys at mesa with jig and table saws cuttin up wood all day. Theres machines that cut it exactly every time then some guy slaps some glue on the joints and pops in a screw or two.
I cant believe you made it for that cheap though, pretty awesome.

Well hand made is a little diffrent but its pretty simple.Just time consuming.I just took a look at what was already there in my mesa cab which was dbl stacked 3/4 11-ply birch which makes the cab outer diam 30"W x17"T x 14" deep.I cut slivers of 3/4x3/4 for bracing thru out the cab.one set of braces all on the top and sides and bottome for a stoping poing and something to screw the backplate to and a set for before the baffle and after the baffle.I fount a place that sells the exact mesa cab handels and tolex.Im using stainless steel grid like fount on the rivera knuckle head for a grill or I found this thing tweed I might cover it with.Im going to drill another hole in the wall plate for a 2nd switchcraft jack to link to the one that is there so I can link it with my standard 8ohm mesa cab for a 8 ohm load and a bogner type mix of speakers. This is alot stronger than avatar and krank type cabs since I used dbl the wood so its heaver but stronger.Mesa cabs just like this are going for $350-400 on ebay.It took me about 2-3 days dragin ass and drinking beer to build this so I saves some some cash and it pays to do it your self.Ill try to get pic's up soon.

![]() My winter projects this year is building two silent cabs, a 1x15 and a 1x12. I'm hoping to bring them in around that same budget. As with most gear, it's always more rewarding to DIY... |
