Mesa: Blue angel vs. Nomad 55

okay so i have some money saved up. and have friends who are selling their gear. i can go with the blue angel 2x10 for 800 bucks or the nomad 55 2x12 for 700 bucks. i currently play a mesa boogie two channel dual rectifier. my question is...what kind of sounds do the blue angel and nomad give off? which sound most different than my dual rec? and which is the better bargain?

I don't remember the prices of these off the top of my head, so I can't tell you whats the better bargain, but the Blue Angel will sound more different than your Recto.

The Nomad is fairly similar to the Recto, but not quite as gainy, more of a sweet distortion rather than the all out balls to the wall crunch of the Recto. Think of it as a more civilized Recto with Reverb.

The Blue Angel on the other hand is a totally different animal all together. A Single Channel of Pure Class A. More along the lines of a Vox than a Recto.

Check the Mesa site, it should have lots more info.

8- Asking me to get closer to the stage or to put my hands in the air. If you have to ask, then you suck.

9- Taking 45 minutes to get set up for a half hour set.

how about one of the F series ?
the clean is amazing, dist. should be same as nomad.

I like the simplicity, the clean sounds, the ability to assign a reverb level to each channel.

did I mention the cleans are amazing?

or you could try to experiment a bit and find an old mesa mark or studio... you could make a bargain. amps are simple technology, you can buy them used. I wouldn't try ebay though, you have to play the amp before you buy it.

If you really want either Nomad or Lone star, I'd say go for the latter, it has more personality, and is def. different from a recto.

whatever you choose, all are great amps. mesa rules!

Yeah, the F-Series are basically newer versions of the Nomad series, which decended from the Caliber series. Great amps, I have a DC-10 and I love it, right now I love it even more than my Mark III Colesium, and I didn't think that would ever happen when I first started playing the Mark III.

Although I bought both of my Mesa's off ebay. I already knew how Mark III's and Calibers tend to sound before I bought them, so I wasn't going in compleatly blind, but I didn't play either of them before I bought them. Not that I recommend doing that unless you know you want that particular amp, but yes, playing them before hand is much better.

well some old amps may be a bit noisy, may have been stored with too much humidity, or the reverb is noisy.
it's hard to find quiet spring reverbs.
