Mesa Express 5:50 combo
Looks like Mesa updated their combo line. Anyone use one of these? Is there any compelling reason to go from a Rectoverb combo to one of these, aside from a more compact size?

did a bit of googling - reviews are decent, the express has the 5:50 cut switch, which is really interesting - basically gives you the option of switching to a 5w practice amp for home practice. but reviews generally indicate that the dirty channel isn't as good as an f50 or a rectoverb.

all depends upon what you think "good" is.
To my ears, these go back to the old days of Mesa, when they were essentially hot-rodded Fenders. I think they are fantastic amps. Most "rectifier" amps I've heard have been too, well, rectified.

Yeh I've read them being described as 'a meaner Lonestar'. So they are good in that way, but will probably not achieve the modern 90's high gain sound without some kind of pedals.
In which case it still may be worth it to try these ou, as I can't crank my Rectoverb loud enough to hit the sweet spot anyways where I live, although Rectoverbs are supposed to have better cleans.
