Metal Amp? Choice of three

Ok, so with the recent Crapping out of my Laney GC80-a I have decided that I can live with my 15 watt line6 till i can afford another big amp. But, I have narrowed it down to three that I found reviews on and have heard them. I can and have tried out of them , A Peavey 6505 and i liked it but, I didnt fall in love right away. I also have considered A Blackstar HT40 and a Randall Diavlo RD50c. I love the tones i have heard from the Blackstar and the Randall but i dont know a lot about how good theyre reliability is and possibly any suggestions around $700(us) that are preferably tube.

.... Dude, there are many used options out there, question is do you want a combo or head? A combo isn't exactly going to get the metal tones you crave... Kinda hard to get "chug chug" with an open back unless you have a Line 6. In the real world, it needs to be loud.

As far as Randall goes, I've never really had an issue with their amps unless there was something wrong in the first place. The tube series is awesome, very dark sounding though... So if you want Kataklysm "Shadows and Dust", Randall has it. I like their hybrid amps to be honest though.....

Blackstar is the new wave, what they do is awesome, but that's exactly what they do... Like a Line 6... It's all there, but like not. Compare a Line6 analog delay to a true 80's analog delay, and you'll get my point here.... Sounds cool, but lacks. My personal opinion though...

The 6505 is where it's at, but what you're missing is using a boost in front of it. It's how to get those recorded tones..... There's also the Triple X combo as well.

As good heads go, I can give you a crap ton to get what you're looking for, I paid I think $600 for my GH50L, and I'm not looking back. The Laney LC series will have what you're looking for as well, in a tube combo.

Carvin V3 is a sweet deal as well if you can find one. Comes in both head and combo.

If all else fails, a Marshall is awesome, and well..... Many hate, but still haven't tried using a tube screamer though one.... All your old school metal is done this way..... Plus a lot of new school too.....

I really want something for the Lamb Of God type tone. I've looked around my area on cl and even on GC's used dept. No luck. So I dont know. I do really want to stick with a combo though. I live in an apartment and go to my cousins and jam alot so I need it to be able to be kinda quiet but able to get Loud.

Why I keep a head with a Marshall MG cab as for !@#$ing around at the apartment..... Other then that, Line 6 combo at home, head if I'm out jamming.... My suggestion.... Just save the money, get a Mark IV combo, or if you can, splurge on a Mes DC-5 combo, should get you where you wish to be. The 6505 combo should do it as well, but metal players advice.... Most guys keep a distortion pedal, always keep a boost, cause even a plexi with a boost can at least get you EVH tones instead of straight cleans..... Brown sound works when you gotta get laid

BTW - Mesa DC-5 has a direct line out and headphone out like a Line 6, but in a full 50 watt tube amp that gets you the tones you seek, just along the used line....

OK, the DC-5 sounds good. I'll look for one.

Good luck, I sold mine for a Dual Rec, then sold that to end up with the second Laney GH50L head I've owned.... I'd still say get a boost, DC-5 will do it, or even a single recto combo, there's a lot out there though, have you sat down with a 6505 combo yet?

The 5150/6505 has a reputation as a killer metal amp for a reason and can be found fairly cheap on the used market.

LoG was Dual Rectos early on, but switched to primarily Mark IVs after the first album.

I have to tell you, I am a HUGE marshall fan, and pretty stubborn too I must say. It takes a lot for me to find something that sounds better than my old Marshall JCM 900 (to my ears of course, everything is opinion)

I recently tried a Blackstar Series 100, and WOW
These amps are not just hype, the sound was AMAZING.
And pretty decent on the clean tones as well.
Though in regards to your request that your amp be suitable for bedroom volumes as well as jamming....FORGET ABOUT IT with this amp!
I had this thing at 1 on the volume dial, and the walls were almost shaking!

Anyways, seems like you know what sound your going for, just thought I'd give my 2 cents

I was clicking through to say: look at the new 5150 III -- HOLY CRAP! Fantastic amp. All three channels are just killer good but that red channel...oh man...sounds stellar. Rock to metal, it's there.

I tried the 6505 and the 6505+. I'm trying to find a GH50L to try. I did try a blackstar stage 50 loved it.

.... You're not going to want one for what you're after.... I can get it with mine, but I've tried many amps before, and really know how to tweak it. Straight out of the box though, think Mastodon's Leviathon. Straight up, straight amp tones you'll get out of a GH50L. Has the chug chug, but still is going to have that high end sparkle. Not the low dark tone of a Mesa or a 5150.... Through a Mesa Oversized cab, maybe, but still.... It's not going to get Job for a Cowboy tones without a boost.....

alright, I did play the stage 60 today and i liked it better than the 50. I still want to try the gh50l. I did find a deal on a Dime head with a 212 cab on cl but i have only tried the dime with a matched 412.
