Question NAD: Fender Vibro Champ Silverface- but what voltage converter?

Haven't posted in a while, but I just picked up a Fender Vibro Champ Silverface. It has a Tweed mod enabled by plugging a jack lead into a jack at the back which sounds great too. I was enamored with the sound as soon as I plugged my Rickenbacker in. I am picking the amp up tomorrow and I was told by the guys in the shop that I will need a voltage converter as it is of course an American amp; they also told me that running this amp at 110v sounds better, so how do I go about running this amp here in the U.K? Thanks guys.

In Brazil we have pretty much two voltages: 127 and 220. They change from city to city, and sometimes you can have both in the same city. Also, most houses that have 127 will have 220 for the showers.

That's not important, though. What's important is I moved from São Paulo (which uses 127) to São Sebastião (220), and got myself a couple of what we call autotransformers. They've got two outlets (like this) and a sort of adapter so you can choose which will be in and which will be out. You just need to know the amp's power requirements and get the proper one--preferably with twice the power you'll actually need.

Selling BOSS FW-3. I live in Brazil, mind you, so prepare yourself for $30-ish for shipping and waiting. Local pickup available, along with beautiful beaches and cheap bitches.

What does the UK run at.....220.?
At any rate.....
a SF Fender was designed to run at 117 Volts, not 110.
For the cost you will incur with buying a 220-120 step down tranny, you may want to consider purchasing a 220 Volt PT for your amp.
Not sure if you gig or travel much with the amp, but it CAN be a PITA to carry a Transformer with you. Just something to think about.
I am curious about the guys in the "shop".
Do they have a transformer that steps down to 110.?
How do they know that amp sounds "better" at 110 instead of 120.?
Good Luck

They had a model that was rated at 300w that was a step-down 240v to 110v I think. I managed to find exactly the same model which I subsequently purchased at an electronics shop across the road. The guy in the shop suggested that running it through a transformer at its native voltage would produce better results than converting the power transformer in the amp since the amp was designed with that amount of power in mind. I'm not entirely sure how true this is, but I know the amp sure does sound good. I thank you both for your help, and that autotransformer looks fantastic asatbluesboy! If I ever travel with it I may consider picking one up if I don't feel up to replacing the power transformer for the amp.
