New cab for BJ?
Has anyone put their blues jr into a larger cabinet (like the ones available from mojotone or carl's custom guitars)? Or perhaps the same sized cabinet but built from solid wood (pine, birch)?
I wrote my blues jr off several years ago because of it's boxiness, but I've been playing with it for the last 24 hours straight. And since I swapped speakers, I think it has a lot of potential. Just curious if anyone has tried these cabs and noticed a marked difference. Surely a dovetailed solid wood cabinet sounds better than the MDF box it came in from the factory.

A ~new~ cabinet for a BJ? Would have to be a hell of a good BJ.
Even an MDF 2 X 12 will make your Blues Jnr a monster. More speakers= more fun.

Just rent a 4x12 cab for the night, or borrow one, and try it through it
You'll find the answer to your question

Getting out of the "boxy" little cab is one of the first things BJ guys do.
As others have said..... run the chassis into a "real" 1x12 (or 2x12, 4x12, 2x10, etc. etc.) and you will hear your amp for the first time. best |

Of course I love the sound of it through a 2x12 cab, but I'm not doing extension cabs anymore because I don't want to lug them around. I'm wanting a giggable amp that I can carry in one hand, so what I'm wondering is whether or not it is worthwhile to throw the chassis and speaker into one of these. Even though it's larger, it will actually weigh the same or slightly less than stock (pine vs mdf). I feel like the Weber 12A125 got it halfway there....I just want a little more "fidelity" for lack of a better term.

The one you posted is the oversized one, so yes, it'll be heavier. If portability is what you need, I'd say do it! What have you got to loose besides 200 bucks? Pedals cost that much these days.... Though, I'd say tolex it, and go for awesome! There's not much you're gonna loose really. Though, may turn into a totally different beast all together, I'm not a fan of open or ported backs myself.... Be aware, this may cause tube rattle as well, as the unit is more solid, and may rattle springs more.

That is a very nice (at least from the pics) looking cab.
!55 dollars.? ...I would say it is well worth it. The Weber 12F150 is a fine speaker in/for that amp. best |

To me resonant equals low-mids, and low-mids are what I'm trying to get rid of. It may be as simple as adding an EQ pedal or a different speaker with a slightly scooped response.

Go Warehouse then
I've had good luck with their V30s when the GT-70s in my Randal cab went.I prefer birch cabs myself, don't care how heavy it is, good tone is a price, and if it's breaking my back, so be it. If you want a tighter more focused sound to begin with, swap the cab out. Frequencies can be EQed out, but to the tune of the wood. Just imagine a drumset made of MDF verses Pine verses Birch.... See if you could get a maple cabinet built at that point
