New Tubes

I'm thinking of ordering some new tubes from www.thetubestore.com next week, and I was just wondering what brand everyone suggests? I've heard JJ's sound really good in 5150s

I like the Svetlana 6L6s a lot - huge tone and tight bass. But I'm sure it depends on the amp whether they are he better choice, I really dig them in Fenders.

I also like the Svetlana 6L6s in Fender amps. I believe Mesa/Boogie relabels them and uses them in their amps as well. Also, the Sovtek KT66s are pretty nice if you're looking for a more Marshally sound.

Are you retubing the preamp section as well? Personally, I like the JJ/Teslas for 12AX7s.

I got groove tubes a couple months ago to replace my old tubes in my marshall. Oh, I didn't get my amp biased because I thought it sounded just fine. Was I supposed to?

GT's are good
JJ's are the best. Svetlana is right up there too.
Ruby's SUCK!

Dude for your 5150 (that amp is one of the Loudest amps out there! ) I'd get 5881's.
For metal and the like, you gotta go with 5881's! DON"T FORGET TO GET YOUR AMP BIASED.

Unless you get EXACTLY the same tube. Always get your amp biased.

How do you do that? just take your amp to a guitar shop and say "I want this biased"?.. and how long does it take?

You need a occiliscope. It's not something I'd f!#@ with. You have to set it (bias)"just right' otherwise your sound will not be as good as it can be.(you can damage the amp)

It only takes about an hour or so.
Just ask to get your amp biased. Cost about $50.

6L6 and 5881's are interchangeable. But you NEED to get it biased.

i put 4 Groove Tube EL34's in my marshall about 3 months ago. They're just as good as anything else i've tried. Groove Tube don't actually make tubes tho... they buy in other companies tubes and match them up more precisely and stick their logo on it

oh, and yeah you should get your amp biased every so often.... esp. if you're like away to go on tour or something. Some amps however don't need biasing...... ie. self biasing amps . Have no idea which types are self biasing in practise tho.
