Peavey Blue Marvels... or Celestion V 30s

I know, I know, it's no contest, but it's a price issue. I REALLY want to swap out my speakers to get a better tone; the Blue Marvels make the Classic sound too much like a Marshall for my taste, and putting the Vintage 30s on a 50-watt amp is known to have desirable results. When I put gold-pin JJs in the thing I'll really want the V30s.

I saw somewhere that it's about $200-249 USD per speaker for 12" V30s. Anyone confirm? I'm going to have to wait quite a while to replace both if they cost that much, though. Minimum wage won't get you much in life.

That sounds about right for Celestions these days, though, last time I checked, was about $150 USD per speaker.

The Warehouse Veteran 30, I had the chance to put in a cab that blew the voice coils on two V30s, and have to admit, the Veteran has a little more bottom end, seems clearer, but still can retain that nice V30 breakup! Mixed with the V30s in there, was the cab from hell! But at $70 USD a pop, how can you go wrong?

I would highly recommend the Veteran 30 paired with this: WGS ET65

They make a fantastic combo. I had this pair in an Avatar 2x12 and it turned my 5W Blackheart head into a freakin' monster.

Looking at them now, really liking what the samples pump out so far. I do play a lot of post-rock and what I like to think i invented: ambirock, so I can always keep an eye on the presence knob.

I'll keep an eye on 'em. About to blow a huge chunk of money on Guitar Rig 5, so they'll have to wait anyhow. What else might I like?

Avatar Speakers have their Hellatone 60's for $99 each, which are basically just a broken-in V30. My friend has a pair in his cab and they sound great.

How "different" is the Hellatone 60? I noticed quite a difference between the midrange hump famous in V30s and the Veteran 30's smoothed out curve. Kinda starting to get suspicious about what "breaking in" is to Avatar, too.

Only going by memory, but his cab definitely sounds like a V30 style cab. Its very present and punchy, much more powerful sounding compared to my standard Marshall 1960B. According to Avatar they start with a Celestion V30 too, but I haven't heard a side by side comparison.

Oh so it basically is a broken in V30. Great. I'll give 'em a look. That's the tone I'm kinda going for. I like that smooth breakup and good midrange, not too bright, not scooped.

This is why I like the older Celestion GT-70s Very aggressive, and actually cut through the mix more....

Probly have some clips of them some where around here.....
