which of these marshalls???

Sorry I bet it's been asked alot..

but what do you ppl think is just generally better and more gig friendlier.?

a Marshall 1959 SLP with a modded master volume in the back (so you can still use the 2 vols on the front when u patch the 2 channels together) or just a plain un-modded 70's JMP Master Volume??

I know an unmodded 1959 isnt very gig friendly as you really got push it to get overdrive but what if its got a modded master volume?? Mainly cos im gonna get a master vol put on the back of my plexi but if its not gonna sound great i may just buy an old jmp master volume. thanks

Thats a good question, but first I want to ask what exact year is your Marshall Because if it is pre-1973 then it has a point to point wired board and will sound much better than the new 1959slps. I think the master volume is a great idea but marshall amps that have a stock master volume generally dont sound as good because its not a transparent master vol, but there are transparent ones that can be bought and installed for cheap. and last, Have you ever played one of the new marshall 1959slps? they breakup alot sooner than you may think.

Just get the 1959 and a power attenuator.

Master volumes are no good for tone, especially that Marshall tone that you obviously want.

Point to Point wiring has nothing to do with how good the tone is. Don't get rid of your SLP, that's Marshall magic right there...

true! I second that!

I gig very often with my marshall head and I must say I need the attenuator, though the amp sounds the best witrhout it. actually I'm dampening it a lot with attenuator, since it's so loud... I'd suggest the fifty watt version instead of the 1959.
