I don't consider Monster guitar cables to be very good at all. They sure don't seem to be shielded very well.

Well, I repaced the crappy low gauge speaker wire on my sound system to top of the line Monster speaker wire.

The volume increased and it made quite a difference in the clarity of the sound. Very

I've been thinking of rewiring my 4x12 with the same wire. I will start another thread on that.

Find out the guage of the cable being used in the Monster's.

Substitue cheapest equivalent (Lamp cord in all probablity) A/B for proof:

Resistivity(ohm-meters)=R(resistance)*A(Area-crosssectional)/l(Length).

The cables you replaced were a smaller A(Area). They could have been monsters and it would have made the same difference. I'm always amused by cables claims that defy the laws of physics.

D'uh! Of course it all relative. Not advocating Monster at all just better cables.

However, it sounds fishy to me that a coat hanger can do the same. Unless it was low gauge crap vs. hanger to begin with.

Another thing, I know you say a cable is a cable is a cable.

However, I could have rung your neck if you were here after I spent 1 hour trying to find out why my pedalboard was down. I was sure it was electrical but finally it was 1 crappy cable. Crappy cables can't take twisting and turning in the long run. So, if you can always use the best tools then use the best tools.

I've use Romex solid core house ac mains wire (just about like using a coat hanger) in a pinch. I have also used steel stranded wire from claymore mines when I was broke and had a friend in the military. NoFro is right. In the audio spectrum the wire thickness and composition is what matters. Heavy lamp cord is great for speaker wire. I think that I mentioned before that I was involved with the test marketing of Monster Cables in the late 70s. Even their own engineers thought it was a joke. They prey on ignorance. I have been present at many double blind test. Result = audiophiles have great imaginations. As far as input cables, get some Switchcraft plugs, any decent brand shielded cable and make your own. There is nothing intrinsically magical about botique cables.

I guess I could buy the Romex wire argument but didn't I say in my previous post that 'it's all relative' ..?

I agree with the heavy lamp cord but 100' is hard to find and all those connections.

I prefer Lava Cables for the beating the plugs can take. I'll pay for that and the assembly. They can solder better than I can. I simply don't have the time to waste on hunting down broken cables. When I rearrange my board (maybe twice a year) it becomes an art and should not be engineering.
