Where do they go? Could I still have a surge even with a surge protector and a ground?

Check the back! Usually some sort of fuse holder is there.........

Bad fuse can pop whenever it wants

The fuse itself should have all the appropriate markings. It should have all the right numbers printed on it somewhere.

Then swab the inside of the pedal send it to the lab for testing in a week or two they'll be able to tell you.

If you find a tab of acid in there take it.
The further back you trip the older it is. If its a bad trip then you know its from the 80's.

I'm not that familiar with a VK but it would be a very unusual amp if it does not have a fuse holder near where the AC cord goes into the back panel. If it isn't there then you will have to pull the chassis. More than likely the fuse failed because of aging output tubes. It could be other things though. You could have a failure in the power supply like a rectifier, transformer, etc. If you are clueless take it to a shop or find someome with the skills to work on it. Tube amps have high voltages inside that can kill you.

I just put a new fuse in, turned it on and it made a feedback noise and died. What now.

I had the same problem with my dual rec when i first bought it.

it sounds like you have a bad power tube or two.

Ok thats what my friend said too. Thanks. I got a slow-blow fuse and now when I have it on, the tubes glow brighter than normal and the power light is on. Is it still the tubes?

If you don't stop ****ing around with this amp you will probably turn what is routeen maintanance into a blown output transformer or worse. More than likely you have shorting output tubes. If this is not a fixed bias amp you will have to adjust the bias when they are replaced. Fuses blow because an amp is drawing excessive current from a short somewhere. Output tubes is just a common answer to your symptom. It could be something else. Judging from the previous comments I would advise you to take it to an authorized tech before you really mess it up or hurt yourself.
