What sounds close to a dual rec sound thats not a rec

HI All

This question has probably been asked a billion times but ill give it a go and see if any one can point me in a direction at least

Ok I recently sold my boogie dual rec 3 channel head after 5 years It was a sad moment as it was an amazing amp, but its big and too loud for venues i play to be honest, and i needed cash for my mortgage though ill miss it

Now i want to see if i can get a combo 30w or 40w or max 50w that comes close to that rec sound

it might even be a pedal i dont know ive been spoiled by having the dual rec
my budget is c.£400

all thoughts and advise will be appreciated

There's a handful of older Mesa combos that go for very low sums on eBay. Something like a .22 caliber combo, for example. Much lower wattage, 1x12 combo. Still loud, but much less unweildy than a 100 watt halfstack.

It won't have a recto sound necessarily (it depends on how you had your recto set up), but it'll have a mesa sound all the same.

Single recto.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

The Mesa V Twin is a good bet, I believe AMT also make a pedal based on the recto sound.

Some Peavey amps can come pretty close to a Recto sound. The 5150 comes in combo form. The XXX is supposed to be Peavey's version of a Triple Recto IIRC, but I'm not sure if it comes in combo form. You could also get a Mesa Rectoverb. Those things are just great.

I just got a Mesa Boogie Rectoverb 50watt combo. Sounds fantastic, but its a bit too heavy for me to carry on my own - its fine if you've got a car.

I want £600 though, that's what I paid for it about a week ago.

I'm moving house, and I need something I can carry to the tube station, so I'm thinking a rectoverb head or I might even just save up for a Cornford.

2nd the Triple XXX, with my ultra and crunch channel tweaked out with a parametric EQ in the loop, using 6L6s, IMHO it can do some pretty convincing Recto impersinations. It won't ever have the sag of the Recto in rectified mode however, it needs rectifier tubes for that.(a pretty drastic and expensive mod to a Triple XXX I'm sure) Above all, it will get close enough for most people I suspect...

And yes, there are still plenty of Triple XXX combos out on the used market, from the 2(1/2) channel 40 watt 1x12"(there is an "EFX" version too, with on-board digital effects) to the 60 watt 1x12" to the 120 watt 2x12" model. They should all be within your budget range I suspect.

Fender Prosonic. You can dial up Recto-like tones yet you also have Fender cleans (if that matters to you).
