The only really tricky thing is learning how to program it, it is not user friendly at all in that respect. I don't leave home without the manual.

Tonally Mesa lays it out pretty well in said manual what to expect out of each channel. From there it's just like a regular single channel amp with gain, presence and voice dials. The manual lays those out pretty good too.

I can get sounds from Tele type country to Fu Manchu fuzz all out of my LP with this set up. I run a 50/50 though 'cause I mostly play live. I just figured the 20/20 would suit the studio more.

The one knock I'll give the Triaxis though is that the couple of times I tried the direct recording outs it sounded like *****. I only quickly plugged it in for a couple scratch tracks though, with some experimentation I'm sure it'd be as solid as the rest of it's functions.

the lonestar looks mighty impressive, but...

blackface deluxe reverb.

stellar cleans plus the best reverb and vibrato you could ask for. the styles you listed could easily be taken care of with a few dirt pedals on a low-wattage fender clean.

I've got the guitars and pedals. I'm looking for the right amp now. Want to help me start the search? My short list of things to try currently sits at:

Koch TwinTone II
Koch StudioTone
THD BiValve-30

What amp would you go to for this sort of situation? Would your choice change if you knew the studios weren't going to let you mic a cab -- they were going to make you run through a speaker sim?
Hey man!

You should try out the Koch; great amps on low volumes. On high volumes I found they lost that touch......

id say its between a fender bassman/twin, an orange ad30, or the lonestar. Or you could go check out a Mesa Mark IV.

I own the switchblade, and I can tell you it's the single most versatile amp I've every played on. it can do B.B. King and Kerry King, and everything in between, plus more. with some tweaking, I got it to have a really nice, warm sounding clean, even with an EMG-85 in the neck position. (if you're not familiar with EMGs, take my word for it that keeping a neck 85 clean is a chore.) the clean channel goes from totally clean to mild overdrive - a bit like a plexi, the crunch channel picks up from there and goes to JCM-800 territory. the lead channel sounds a lot like a boosted marshall - like the 80's metal guitar sound. the ultra channel is patterned after the warp series of H&K heads, and can do any high gain sound you're after, from sludgy stoner metal to tight and articulate. with my carvin legacy cab (V30s) I can get nearly any sound out of it. I highly recommend the H&K Switchblade.

Deizel Einstein 50W combo?

Clean/vintage/crunch on ch1 and lead ch2. I think it's got a DI/desk out as well...

If I was in the market for a combo this is it, no questions.

NOT wanting to go OT (by much ) . . .

. . . my cousin has a 5150 combo, and still have GAS for a H&K (can't remember the model). Can the Switchblade do INDUSTRIAL tones ???

Thanx

Ha! Well, it shouldn't but if you're working with a producer who doesn't play guitar or is young they tend to give you a little more instant respect if your gear looks the part. Especially if it has names on it they recognize. It all goes grows (or goes away) once you start playing, but there's certainly a first impression that's made based on the visual alone. Sad but true.
