long scale basses
ok, situation: i play bass in a groove metal band (check the sig) which requires me to play in C# and drop B.
but i dont think i have enough string tention in my bass (specter pro 4) so i was wondering what companys run long scale basses as standard models? and well built basses. im gonna save up for it but im looking to spend about £500/$800.

If you don't thnk your strings are tight enough, try moving up a guage rather thatn getting a whole new bass. Hell, if you're playing in drop B just get a 5 string set and throw away the G.

im on the largest gauge i can find, and i have tried many differant brands, ive had to file my nut about 4 times to accomodate new strings and they are still way too lose for finger playing at the speeds i need to play at. and i want a new bass anyway, makes sense to me.

What guages do you use then?
Personally I use a 140 for my B and you can get 145s...not tight enough for you? The trouble is if you get a 35" or 36" scale you'll have trouble finding strings for them in heavy guages.

you could order a set of strings off of the conklin website and get a low F# string. i have a 150 gauge, but you can get them as big as 165. if that's still to loose, then you could beef up to a low C#, which is somewhere between 185 and 200.
i'm just kidding man. I would say just deal with it... it can't be that bad. edit: i just listened to your band, and the bass sounds right for the group to be honest with you. nice and grindy. If you really aren't happy with it, maybe you could try higher action, but it fits the band nicely right now.

ESP makes some (albeit ugly) 35" scale 4-strings.
