What a funny time to start utilizing this feature of GG.com. Logging in, I'm just discovering that I've been registered at this place since 2004--and I was certainly lurking for a couple of years beforehand, the site having been brought to my attention by the guitarist in my first band wherein I was the lead vocalist. I remember when each member was given the ability to write and post their own blog entries, and thinking, "Yeah, I'll do that." And then promptly not doing it.

Well, as they say, today is a new day. And while I chalk it up to recent self-improvement efforts directed by outside parties for whom documentation is a crucial piece (stemming from a bit of a personal crisis situation--more on that later... probably) something also drew me back here now. And that's weird, because when I listen to my intuition, strange synchronicities tend to happen. (Again, more on that later.)

I'm tempted to go back and delete many of my older posts to the forum; for instance, I started a thread at one point called something like "The What-If Game" that was parodied by other more established members of the GG.com community. The thing is, I wrote the initial post after reading a Kurt Cobain biography that moved me so deeply that I immediately went to YouTube and sought out interview footage so that I could feel like this guy I'd identified with and felt a connection to was, in fact, still alive. I clocked a clip at one point where Mr. Cobain was discussing the influence of new wave music and the possibilities afforded by experimenting with various effects pedals. So affected was I that I wrote a post that seems to have gone down with some degree of infamy.

Not long thereafter, I returned to mostly reading and rarely posting. It simply hadn't occurred to me that my rambling speculation, put forth in a state of extreme emotion (a rarity for me--more on that later) would be misconstrued as insensitive by folks who had relatives or friends who'd committed suicide. At the time, I wanted nothing more than to take each critic of my post aside and assure them that my intentions were pure: all I'd intended was to simply offer some conjecture as to where Nirvana would have gone next, had that fateful day in 1994 passed uneventfully. I offered my own speculation in part because I hoped against hope that someone, anyone, could undo this terrible turn of events... if only in our minds and hearts, and if only for a little while.

Anyway, after suffering a few flames (which were much less brutal than what I see on other message boards nowadays) I clammed back up and reverted to the role of observer rather than the role of content creator. It's only tonight (1 AM, in fact) that I feel good about jumping back in because I truly feel like I'm on the verge of something that I want to document, if only for myself.

Subsequent to the offending post, I was dormant for awhile. I'd spent the previous few years developing my guitar playing--which, to this day, is informed by post-punk and new wave, rather than blues and classic rock--and writing songs informed by the likes of Interpol, Joy Division, Echo & the Bunnymen, U2, the Smiths and U2. We also incorporated elements made famous by various classic rock bands with varying degrees of success.

My last project was pretty close to realizing my vision. The band was formed when I'd finally gained some confidence as a guitar player, composing several pieces that I thought contained elements that I liked as a songwriter (for the record, my favorite records at the time were U2's Boy, Genesis' Foxtrot and Nirvana's In Utero in almost equal measure).

The band initially started when I placed an ad on Craigslist.org seeking a bassist, drummer and singer to complete my dream lineup. The sole respondent who I bothered to follow up with was a guy named Sean, who demonstrated enthusiasm for the bands, albums and genres I listed in my listing. He described himself as a singer who'd never been comfortable with "the spotlight"--great as his vocal ability was, and remains--and someone who'd always wanted to play bass in a manner that recalled the work of guys now considered classic: Peter Hook, Simon Gallup, Adam Clayton, etc.

We teamed up after a 2-plus-hour phone interview and a short meeting at a famous local diner. I honestly thought I'd never hear from him again. At the time, Sean didn't have a bass guitar (in spite of saying "I'm the bassist you're looking for), so I told him to call me when he'd bothered to buy one, figuring that'd shake him if he was a faker; less than 7 days later, he called me back saying he'd obtained a 4-string, and when were we getting started? It just so happened that he rented a rehearsal room with another band, with whom he was working in the lead vocalist despite being terribly uncomfortable. I promptly moved into that room with him, and in a short span of time, we assembled enough instrumentals that we could've released an album had a similarly-minded drummer and vocalist been involved. Although he was getting paid to play gigs with his other act, Sean evicted them from the rented practice room and made that our headquarters...

Well hi there guys, time to intriduce myself i suppose.
Let's just talk about the guitar player for the moment. Started when I was a teen, my parents never really were into music so learning wasn't as easy as I thought it would. Played my way through college and high school had a few bands, everything was going well.
Went to university no more bands, and the motivation just slowly dropped.
After a couple of years in Bordeaux, I discovered that one of my friends played guitar too... We started playing again together and ended up forming a band.
Now we can firmly say that all the motivation is back ,we're ready to rock !
Never really was the kind of guy to learn alone in my room, always wanted to write good songs... Our first EP is on the way so I think that we got on pretty well !

Will be keeping you updated on my band and my gear with this blog. Hope you enjoy it !

I'm thinking about getting a laboga Mr. Hector. I am quit sure i have seen one with KT66/77/88 tubes in it. However i know they make them with 6L6's now. Can you swap out the 6L6's with KT tubes? I know you have to be careful with this stuff, and i have only heard of switching 6V6 with 6L6, so i am kind of confused. Any help would be apriciated.
That has been the closest to what im looking for i've heard yet. I live in a small town that doesn't have a guitar center or any other large music store so i can try one. my current setup isnt excellent, but its what i have so far. Ibanez RG 570 w/ Steve Vai pups, Crate GT212, Morely (cant remember the numbers) Dist./Wah/vol. combo, and a good old fashioned DOD Death Metal Distortion pedal.

Hi folks!

Here's the list of things I'm working on aside from the usual tagging, moving posts to the correct forums, and consolidating smaller posts about 1 band to the same thread:

Tripping Daisy (trying to find any pics of the pedals that Wes used, I have only found one floor shot in a video and it is blurry and from their earlier era, around 1992)

Cap 'N Jazz - I saw them a while back and took extensive gear notes, I just keep forgetting to post this, since they are on a different computer

Joy Division/New Order - I have updates for my post on the band

Saves the Day - This is pretty much done, but I watched a bunch of their earlier shows and looked through their earlier photos and have a pretty comprehensive post to make on them

Upcoming Concerts:

Bonnaroo 2012
The Promise Ring

Hope you're having a great one!

So I have had my Bugera 6260 for 6 months now. All I can say is WOW!!! This is the best sound I have ever had. Inexpensive, reliable, and well built. I have had zero, yes ZERO problems with my head. I recommend Bugera and Behringer products. I am not a big rock star, so I can't afford a Fender EVH head; and the Peavey 6505/5150 is the same as the EVH. So when my $500 6260 sounds just like the $1,200 Peavey and the $2,200 EVH there is no reason not to have it. If METAL is the style of music you play, THIS IS THE HEAD FOR YOU!!! Thanks for reading, ROCK ON!!!:p:cool::D
