Attn: Mike Einziger Fans

Just to spread the info I have aquired by staying up all night playing with my pedals and watching countless hours of Incubus live performance, I have Figured out the settings on a few of mike's pedals, and what they are used for.

The first super phaser in his line(sp-1) is set as follows

Rate- 2
Depth-8
Resonance-10
Mode-II

He uses it in: the first brige in Stellar, intro to When It Comes, Breakdown in The Warmth, and a few others not real sure however.

Thats all I can remember for know cause I'm at work and I them written down somewhere.

If anybody has any other ideas as to his pedal settings and as to what they are used for post here. I'm really curious about his phase 90 setting.

Update and such.

The second super phaser in his lineup is set faster than the first one.

Rate-7/8
Depth-8
Resonance-about 9
Mode-I

I find that he uses it on Glass, Nowhere Fast, the verse in New Skin, Verse in Calgone, also in Nebula. There is more im sure.

Someone once mentioned that they thought his phase 90 was set kinda fast. But if you watch the morning view sessions dvd (Early Jamming On 11am) he is stepping on it while playing the perchorus and it is set kinda slow. I dont own one but ive played through one.
I think he uses it on Pardon me, not sure however. Also when he plays the warmth live. on the recording he uses his rotosphere too. If you pan left and right you can hear the diffrence.
Dont be shy people feel free to add.

I haven't really got the time (or enough of Mike's pedals) too add much, but it's cool that you have.

All I can say is I can get very similar phase sound to that in Consequence on my Ross phaser.

Settings:

Rate: between 2 and 3 o'clock
Recycle: about 12 o'clock

The Ross is said to be very similar to th phase 90, so he might use the phase 90 for that with the rate set about there.

Who knows.....

im pretty sure mike's added a ph-3 phase shifter to his setup i just got one and im pretty sure i figued out the settings for "are you in?" and "blood on the ground"

Rate: about 1 o'clock
Depth: about 11 'clock
Res: about 1 o'clock
Mode: Fall

he also uses delay with a lot of repeats for "are you in?" but he doesnt use a dd-6 like i have so i wont bother to post it

Welladjusted is on a distinguished road
he has a boss rv-3, which has a delay function. so the actual delay settings won;t be terribly different

well, in that case my dd-6 is set to 800ms in the mode knob, the delay time is set all the way back, feed back is set to about 2 o' clock, and so is the effect level

i dont think his mode 1 ph-2 is set that fast. i'd say the rate is about half. thats what he uses in the intro to to nice to know you. and others. thats just the first one that came to mind. i seriously doubt he's using a ph-3. i have set my ph-2 and ph-3 next to each other to a/b them. the ph-3 can get pretty close to the ph-2 sound, but its more........umm... ****ty. as for his phase 90, that is what he uses in the intro to consequence. he also uses it on blood on the ground. he uses his ph-2 in blood on the ground, too; the slow setting i believe. on 'are you in' he is using the faster mode on his ph-2.

thats all i've got.

first of all, hes using flanger for the intro nice to know you, and im not just saying **** cuz i checked a bunch of sources
secondly, i finally found a ph-2 and the are you in sound definitely doesnt come from it. its used for a bunch of other songs like the warmth and when it comes . for the majority of morning view a ph-3 was used and if you listen to the harmonics on are you in the phasing is always in a fall motion, an option only available on the ph-3
i agree with you on the phase 90 with consequence

i will state however that thers no sure way of figuring what pedals he uses live because he changes from show to show

im sorry man, but your sources were wrong. he is using the (very flange like) ph-2 on the intro to nice to know you. also, the ph-3 was not on his board during the morning view times. im sure he wouldnt like it anyway because that phase is a piece of ****. also, if you dont have a ph-2 then you cant say that the sounds on are you in arent a ph-2. as for the phase always being in a falling motion, it could just be the rotation of the LFO. did it ever occur to you that he has the ph-2 before his delays thus making it so that the phase wont keep modulation and only the pitch from the phaser that went into the delay pedal will repeat?

deal with it.

The speed I mentioned for the mode I phaser is a general speed he changes the speed on the cd depending on the song, there are some songs where the speed at half is right and then faster on some songs.
The Phase 90 is probably what he uses on consequence now but when he recorded it he did have a flanger in his lineup and thats what he used. The nice to know you into is deffinitly the mode I setting no question, that and he did'nt have a flanger or a ph-3 in his lineup then.

On the warmth he uses two phaser sounds and his rotosphere.

The phase 90 at a slow rate for the verse then he adds the rotosphere for the chorus. And the Mode II phaser for the breakdown.

if you actually read my post you would have noticed that i DO have a ph-2 and the sounds that i at least get dont match the sounds from nice to know you or are you in

try the nice to know you with a flanger and you'll see what im talking about and then at least try the earlier settings i posted for the ph-3

in my opinion the ph-3 sounds better than the settings ive tried for are you in with the ph -2

finally dont compare the ph-3 with the ph-2 cuz i have them both and they are nothing alike

haha. tab books are definitely not infallible. dont be so naive. its not like mike einziger transcribed that book all by him self. someone transcribed it that gets paid to do that. dummy.

also, learn sentence structure.

Come on guys....we're all supposed ot be discussing how Mike gets his tones, appreciating them and having a good time.

Cool it with all these insults and silyl comments. I'm sure everyone has their osurces, but who really cares? If you get a tone that's close or dead on, who cares what pedal he's using?

If you're gonna disagree, do it i na slightly more friendly way, we're all Incubus fans here
