Just saw them last night. Both guys play pretty damn nice white Les Paul customs. One goes directly into a Peavey amp, a VTM I believe. The other guy also plays into a VTM but has a pedal board with a volume pedal, Fulltone overdrive, the aforementioned bluebeard, Boss Octave, a Small Stone, Boss Delay....and I think that's it. There might be another one or two I can't remember. Anyway, he has without a doubt one of the best live guitar tones I've heard in a very long time.

Robomantik, I'm guessing your name is from the Unpersons song? ****ing great band. Used to see them play quite a bit when I lived in Georgia. I wish they'd tour again, god damn it.

Peavey's huh? That's actually a breath of fresh air... It's nice to know that Peavey's getting out there a bit more.

yeah, it's from an unpersons song! which is kind of relevant to this thread since unpersons just did a split with baroness. where in georgia did you live? they are one goddamn good band live. every member in the band lives somewhere radically different from the other [georgia, oregon, sweden?], so i guess it's a little hard for them play still. bummer though, they rule hard.

Peavey Butchers and VTMs are great, simple, solid amps. Throw a Rat or decent fuzz in front, crank the volume, and you've got a damn good sound. Easily the best amp you can get for ~250-300.

I'm from Atlanta, but went to school in Athens. Used to see them play a decent amount there. The stuff on the split is great, but my favorite is still the one-track 15 minute CD single they put out. Those guys have such a unique sound, really unlike any other band out there.

Yes, you can. There is the Ronsound '75 mod, although I suspect there are far more out there.

i have a maybeee big update for this thread. i'm going over to john baizley's house tomorrow because he might be buying my marshall head. so if that's the case, that'll be the newest addition to baroness' gear.

i saw baroness thursday night in philly. it was great seeing john again and i finally got to see them. i stood in front of john and his pedalboard has the following:
ehx small stone
boss dd-6
ehx bass balls
eb volume pedal
boss tu-2
boss oc-2
fulltone ocd
bluebeard fuzz

that looked to be the order from amp going to guitar signal. he used the dd-6 and volume pedal for the volume swells with delay. he used the small stone and dd-6 for the intro of "isak".
he didn't use his bass balls, oc-2, or bluebeard fuzz. he played through that peavey head with 2 marshall cabs and had a pretty overdriven cranked sound and used the ocd to boost that and had the gain around 12 o clock.
the other guitarist was using the same amp setup of peavey with 2 marshall cabs and the only pedal he had was a boss tu-2. the bass player had a gibson explorer bass into some rack amp stuff i didn't really look at and then an 8x10 sized cab.
damnnn good performance.

Alright... Looks like there's a bit of a change in the lineup and in the gear.

I'm bad with names...

Brian Blickle quit the band to study law so now they have this new guy, Peter...

Peter (as far as I can see from the limited videos on the internet) uses a Green (Matamp/Electric) halfstack and a Les Paul Classic in Tobacco Burst.

John is now using a red Bad Cat halfstack with the usual 3 pickup Custom LP.

I'll try to get more info as I'm seeing them tomorrow with High on Fire and Opeth

Here's everything I could tell last night...

Pete:
Gibson Les Paul Classic in Tobacco Sunburst
Matamp/Electric Green Halfstack (couldn't tell which one)

I don't think I saw him step on any pedals (minus a tuner), and I didn't see a pedal board.

John:
Gibson Les Paul Custom in white with 3 pickups
Bad Cat Half Stack (I'm guessing either a Lynx or a Hot Cat)
Phase 90, Ernie Ball Volume, Fulltone OCD... Those are the only ones I could really tell. He has a pretty bitchin' delay, though. Not sure which one it was.

Here's something I found interesting, he was tuning up a Guild S-70 in wine red before they went on. I assume this was his backup.

neat to see he has a new amp rig. he's been searching around for one for a while!
he was trying out my old jcm800 head wanting to buy it about a year ago, but i ended up selling it to someone else for way more than he wanted to pay/more than i would've payed for it

It sounded incredible... It's everything I would ever want. I just have to find a way to scrounge up $3000 for a Bad Cat now...

I have that issue. It's with the old guitar player and it's when they were using the Peavey VTMs. Interesting article... But already out of date.
