biffy clyro setup

hey,
i was just wondering if anybody knows the kind of gear Simon Neil from Biffy Clyro uses, from seeing them live many times, i know that he uses a fender strat(model?), some kind of creme coloured peavey amp for cleans and i think a marshall plexi with distortion pedals for his dirty sounds, just want to know what pedals he uses if anybody knows?, think they might be Boss.
i know quite alot of people might not know who the hell Biffy Clyro are!, thats cos they are only really known in britian, and not even that well.

any answers would be great!!, i'm sure at least one of you geeks will know!, if you've never heard of Biffy you should check them out too!! they are amazing

thanks

you're spot on about the amps

the guitar is a strat modded to have only one pickup, i believe the extra clean tone comes from an internal phase setup

as for effects -

boss ds1
boss hyper metal
boss metal zone
boss tuner

used to use a boss acoustic simulator

i think he'll begin to incorporate some different stuff into his rig with the new album, just got a funny feeling

he's the only person i know who can make those boss pedals sound cool

thanks alot!, i went to see them at a virgin megastore gig once and i got a good look at one of his strats, he had it with a bridge and a middle pickup, no neck pickup, and no toggle switch, so he must have had i set permenently set between the two.

i love his guitar sound, both clean and distorted, and that really cool half crunchy clean sound he gets too.

i totally agree with you, he is the only guy that can make them pedals sound good!

i take it he uses some kind of A/B box too?

my band supported them once, they took about an hour and a half to soundcheck!!!, well worth it tho!, they always sound good live!
thanks alot for the reply monkeyspunk you hit the nail firmly on the head!!!!
cheers big ears!

no problem dude

i saw them at virgin megastore oxford street a while back when they were promoting questions and answers

i've seen them about 6 times now

always good

my friends band supported them also a while back

now members of my band

they're nice guys too

I guess there must be an a/b box in there somewhere unless he runs both amps in stereo

awsome band. my band played with them at the first kerrang fest in camber sands.
i didnt get to talk to the singer/guitarist much as he was pretty quiet off stage but the drummer ben and i had the maddest night getting drunk and playin silly buggers! we kept people awake all night while stumbling from room to room, which the guys in ill nino didn't find very funny (cant imagine why).
anyway, awsome blokes even better musicians, PLEASE CHECK EM OUT!

Biffy are great! The current best British live band I think. Saw them supporting Hundred Reasons last week and the blew HR off the stage, there was no way they could follow Biffys set.

I can't believe he uses those distortion pedals, they really do normally sound lame!

last time i saw biffy clyro at T in the Park he was using that strat and some wee red thing with humbuckers in it, but i couldnt tell you what that was (too much buckfast).
I saw them at the barrowlands supporting weezer a few years back, i thought they were all right but theyre too samey if you ask me, 57 is a cool song but its the best thing theyve written and that was a while ago. And they were utter ***** supporting the deftones at the braehead arena (bad venue but deftones still owned), total lack of presence, mercury tilt switch where the first band on and completely blew them away and they arent even signed as far as i know.
seem like nice down to earth blokes though and i love the fact they got told by the label their old name (screwfish) was too stupid so they changed it to something equally dumb.

I saw them last night!

They were actually very dissapointing. Supporting hundred reasons. They played 5/6 songs and were on for 25 minutes. They just didn't seem to care, was quite dissapointing.

They've been so good the other 4/5 times i've seen them.

Hundred Reasons were fantastic though. They're two of my faivourite bands but Hundred Reasons made up for a pretty bad short Biffy set. It's wierd it was the other way around where you saw them.

Simon used 2 fender strats last night, with the little cream amp for cleans but I dcouldn't see much else.

I think he uses all Bos pedals though from a picture I saw of his pedal board.
