I'm surprised there's not many, if any, BJM fans on here. These guys were like the Velvet Underground of the 90's, Anton Newcombe is a genius, he's insane, but a genius none the less.

he may be a genius but he's pretentious. i couldn't ever really fathom their music. i like a lot of the velvet underground and drone sounding stuff that came after lou reed left TVU (jesus & mary chain, etc.) but i found that their stuff was almost too derivative and boring. same with the dandy warhols, but i did enjoy DIG! because it was a funny and enjoyable movie.

anyways, theres only been like 2 guitars recovered from that whole list, and the raveonettes are still looking for their gear too.

If I were you, I wouldn't base an opinion of either band solely upon Dig. A friend of a friend knows Anton and says the movie is pretty damn skewed. I think alot of the stuff in that film is heresay anyway. Personally, I never let my opinion of someone impact how I perceive their music either, but that's just me. Myself, I don't find BJM to be derivative of the JAMC in many respects at all. To me, it hits alot closer to early Stones and earlier VU (like the VU and Nico (definately not later stuff like loaded or even the self titled LP). At times, I think I can hear some Birds influence in there, but truth be told, I don't really try to listen for things like that. I like what I like, regardless of where it came from.

Justin.

found this aswell but it's nothing new really

Longislandmusicscene.com [LIMS]: What gear do you like to use?

[Frankie]: Vox guitars, & no pedal effects (but a distortion now and again).

[Anton]: We use old stuff. Harmony and Guild acoustic guitars, Vox and Rickenbocker 12-string electric's, Vox Cheatah, and Gibson 335's for the six strings, Fender amps, Ludwig and Gretsch drums, Hammond organs.

I am just recently getting into BJM and I have a few friends that have gotten ****ed up with Anton, he sounds like a crazy dude, but he makes pretty cool music.

Anton uses a very nice vox guitar with built in fuzz and effects. He also uses a fender twin at all gigs.

When I saw them last year the other guitarist used a 335, 335 12 string and a vox phantom 12. The only effects he was using was a line 6 DL4 and a crybaby wah. It's pretty standard no matter who is in the band.

I spyed some Musicman combos in Dig!. Great band, but how they get hailed as the second coming of christ by some people is annoying.
