I wasn't sure what songs he was talking about, but then I realized he uses it for the organ sounds on Lotus (which I thought were being played by Alex on synth). He does the shifting in the chorus.

Here's Alex's setup:

And here's the only decent shot of Cory's board that I can find:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1081/...79d93305d5.jpg

What I can tell of Cory's board:

- Ernie Ball Volume Pedal
- Boss TU-2 Tuner
- Unknown
- Boss RV-3/5 (Unsure)
- Line6 DL4 Delay Modeler
- Moog Moogerfooger (Unsure which model)

The DL4 is hidden behind the coiled-up cord, or whatever that happens to be. The rest should be fairly easy to identify.

I did not, but you can bet your ass I will be taking some of my own whenever I see them in October. If we don't find out before then, I ask Cory what that unknown pedal is on his board. I'm assuming it's a boost or an overdrive of sorts.

the hog is ALL OVER the new record.

i'm usually bad at picking out effects on guitar, though. i have to know where something is in a song, before i can listen and recognize an effect. the Hog sticks out like a sore thumb, though.

Well any of the distortion on the album is definately either their lone stars or their ocd and green screamer (formally dual tubescreamers). Jake uses his phaser very subtally on a few songs, most notably Burying Luck (and possibly Throwin' Shapes). Dave might use his wah on Knights and Throwin' Shapes. As said, the hog is in a lot of places; Dave in Lotus; Jake in Burying Luck. Delay/Reverb is everywhere. Compression is on all the time for Dave's tapping.

Dave has this rack/recording style compressor on all the time. It sits on top his twin/lonestar.

I haven't seen any footage of him using that compressor in a few years. Has he reinstituted it?

That's been Dave's back up every time I've seen him. I think I remember seeing some Botch footage of him playing it. I've never seen him play it with Minus The Bear.

I do pedal mods. I build amps. You should get one built for you.
If it's too loud, you're too old.

Minus The Bear are MTV's "Artist of the Week," and you can see videos of him using that silverburst Les Paul in it (http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/minu...ar/shows.jhtml ,) which is the first time I've ever seen him use it live.

Also, from the looks of recent photos on Flickr, Dave is starving for pedalboard space. He is using a new one seen here and here .

EDIT: Then again, maybe he just moved his stuff to a smaller board for the in-store show. But, he still has the same amount of pedals that take up the same amount of space as his old board, so I doubt that.

I saw them last night at the Pittsburgh show. First opening band, Ela, is decent. The second, Subtle, is quite possibly the worst band I have ever heard. But thats just my opinion.

Back to MTB, Jake and Dave were rocking the white mesa lonestars. Cory had a white full mesa bass stack (2 4x12 cabs). Alex had a Mesa rack preamp/power configuration also going into a white cab. So the boys might have some secret sponsership from Mesa (?). Pedal boards were the same as previous pics, except that Dave has a boss rc-2 loop station along with the dl4's, and Jake also had a moogerfooger pedal. I don't know what effect it was though, and could not see Cory's board. I was in front of Dave, so that greatly helped understanding some of the sounds on the new album (if anyone has any questions, I would be more than willing to answer). Like said before, there is ALOT of ehx hog going on.

Dave seemed to be having trouble with his PRS and changed to the silverburst lp for a good deal of songs, and also used it for the new songs. Jake used the gretsch on new stuff (standard), and the tele for old stuff (drop d). They opened with Burying Luck, and Dave spent the majority of the song trying to tune the prs. He missed the first whistling guitar part, and then switched to the lp before the bridge. He seemed really pissed off at the prs, so when the guitar tech behind the amps handed him the lp, he flipped it like a sword and almost hit Jake in the head. Then later his lp fell, but he caught it with one hand by the input jack side, and picked it up that way, making the super heavey lp look like a child's guitar.

Setlist was approximately:

-Burying Luck
-Spritz! Spritz!
-Drilling
-Throwing Shapes
-Get Me Naked 2: Electric Boogaloo
-Hooray
-Dr. L'ling
-White Mystery
-Knights
-The Fix
-Lotus
----------
-Absinthe Party
-Pachuca

I think they definately would of played more songs, but the venue was a dance club, and need everyone out by 10:30, to open at 11 for dancing. So that meant not only was there a shorter set, you had to leave right after the final song. You couldn't visit the merch table, and definately couldn't meet them. It pissed me off. I bet when they come back, they won't play at the club again.

PS: Also, anyone who thinks they suck live, this is not the case. They pulled off everything exactly like on the cds. Even the harmonies. If anything, the songs seemed ALOT dancier live.

Don't worry they'll come back, give it a couple years and you can go to more shows. The only reason my parents let me go was because I am almost 18 and I had a friend with me. Try to get an older and responsible friend or cousin to go with you. Or even have your parents drive you both ways. Try to make it seem as safe to them as possible.

Usually I am the younger one on boards, so it feels weird to give advice from the older standpoint. I hope you can go, they kill on this tour.

Best of luck.
yeah, my sister (28) said she would take me, but my parents still said no.

and i'm never the one to give advice to a younger forum-goer.

i'm only 15. (sophomore)

Groups>Two

Hence why I am tentatively allowed to go to the MTB show on Thursday, I'm going with two other males. Both older, and by legal extent, more mature.
