I get a kick out of that, actually. It takes the whole treasure-hunting aspect out of it and reminds us that the music and its creation is really the whole point. I got a similar little bit of joy watching a video of the guys from Mogwai talking about their gear and basically showcasing how un-gear-nerdy they are. It was liberating. It's not the gear but what you do with it that counts.

I've haven't been on the forums for about a month or so now, its just been crazy times down here, been busy with the band, work and all sorts but I got a chance to check em out today and I come across this thread to find you supported Mono!!!!! Congrats Michel on playing a show with them, that would have been such a memorable experience that you truly deserve, I'm glad everything is going well with your band!!

Peace out!
Thanks, Eric! That's really kind, man! It surely was a blast but sadly, MONO were VERY antisocial .. Kinda broke my heart that they didn't even bother to say hello, not even after our own show. Right after their show I went back upstairs, to the backstage room, and said to Taka that I thought the show was amazing. He just said thanks in a insincere manner, without looking me into the eyes and instantly walked out the door ..

Yeah, I noticed that vid of mogwai as well, they seemed like complete noobs regarding gear, well, at least Stuart did.

Yeah, perhaps, the girl seemed really humble and shoved herself out of my way when we were getting food. I was like; "It's okay!" and waited 'till she was done.

En wow, dat is snel!
Ik ben benieuwd of het allemaal gelukt is? Extra delaytijd ook, of was niet mogelijk?

It's been a long time since I've seen it, so I'm mostly remembering my impressions rather than the actual video. I just remember one of them looking at the other's pedal board and saying something like, "bloody hell, he has even more now". Really funny.

Do you have a link to that Mogwai vid? I've read interviews with them and they seem quite interesting to talk to.

As for Mono, I understand the Boss love if only because their pedals are reliable and don't take up much 'board space. My brief and borderline tongue-tied conversation with Taka and Yoda showed them to be really modest and down-to-earth...it's a relief when your heroes aren't arrogant or stand-offish towards their fans.

Anytime, sugardaddy.

Glad the shows went well, I think it's just that sort of japanese tradition and their customs, ya know?

I got a bit bored this evening so decided to set out Taka's full live rig (European tour 2010, assuming it's the same at all dates). I have to say right off that their rigs are all made up of standard, commonplace gear so the 'Mono magic' is down to their songwriting and musicianship more than anything. I also understand the official 'geek' graphic style is copyrighted but here goes...

Fender MIJ '65 reissue Jazzmaster[1] -> Boss Tu-2 -> Boss RV-5 -> Boss LS-2[2] -> Danelectro DD-1 Fab Tone -> Boss RV-3 -> SIB Mr Echo -> Boss DD-3[3] -> Boss DD-3[4] -> Morley Wah[5] -> Boss PS-2 -> Boss LS-2[6] -> Fender Twin or Boss RC20XL Loopstation -> Marshall JCM2000 DSL 100 and Marshall 4x12 cab (bottom)[7]

Notes
1. Lead/rhythm slide switch electrical-taped over. Bridge is stock as far as I can see. Not sure what spec the pickups and circuitry are though
2. Signal goes into the input and out of the output (as opposed to either of the loops). Set in A<->BYPASS mode, as a clean boost
3 and 4. Set almost identically, except the delay times are slightly different
5. Unspecified model, sorry. Believed to be a Bad Horsie
6. Set to A+B mix/bypass mode. Switches between Fender amp ('output') and looper ('loop B').
7. One amp is a Fender Twin (100W two-channel version, not the 85w Twin Reverb reissue), the other is the loopstation into the Marshall head and cab. Oddly, it's the 'bottom' half-stack 4x12, not the angled 'top' half. Guess it makes it easier to perch the Twin on top of a non-angled cab.

The power supplies could be one-spots but I suspect it's a set of four of those new Boss PSA-120S to replace his old PSAs, which look much bulkier and supply less current.

I'm relying on my photos at the Leeds gig, plus this thread which filled in the gaps. I'm currently squinting at my pic of Yoda's board but I'm not as familiar with his.

Suggestions/corrections welcome!

It all looks pretty much correct. Taka's Jazzmaster is a vintage 1965 sunburst model. First DD-3 is a slightly longer and louder delay time than the second DD-3. Morley is indeed a VAI-1 Bad Horsie.

I wish more people would realize this about more bands, even ones who use obscure gear . . .

Thread necromancy is probably more helpful than making *another* thread for these guys...just a quick heads-up to link to another interview in which all four of them list their equipment preferences. Not much new info per se, but it sets thom's question about the amp knob settings.

It's pretty recent, although I suspect they'll change their setups again when the new songs are out (sometime next year apparently).

Here's a pic of Taka's (left) and Yoda's (right, with the pedalboard light in the way sadly) RV-3s, since both seem to be set differently. This was back in '09 on the Hymn... tour by the way.

You'll be pleased to know that I've bought a new - and better - camera since then so my next MONO show ought to be captured quite literally in a better light!
