The Raveonettes

Anyone have details on Sune Rose Wagner's rig? From my discussions with FiveWays and what I've observed, here's what I gathered so far:

Fender Jazzmaster
ProCo Rat (live)
A fuzz pedal of some sort in the studio
Boss TR-2 Tremolo
Fender Twin Reverb

What I'm most interested in is how he gets that outrageous feedback with the piercing high end on the "Chain Gang Of Love" LP. His sound is very Jesus & Mary Chain-esque, and it could possibly be a Shin-Ei Fuzz Wah, but I've never heard one that could feed back so radically. Perhaps he's using two distortion boxes at the same time?

For live shows the other guitar player has a Tele (some sort of rail humbucker - Barden?) and I think that he does a lot of the squealing feedback. At least that was what I gathered from seeing them on a couple of chat shows. I believe he was also using a Fender amp of some sort.

Barden pickups can be very harsh and trebly or chimey.

Saw this amazing band last night.

The male guitarist used a jazzmaster, twin reverb and
Boss TU2, Boss RV2, Boss RV3, Proco RAT, Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Octave Fuzz

The Female guitarist had a very nice 60's black jazzmaster into a super reverb, with a Boss TR2, Pro Co Rat, Boss TU2 and three Boss RV3's.

There was no bass player and the bass was on a backing track.

They had a stand up drummer too. Bonus.

I vaguely remember reading an interview with them back when Whip it On came out, and I believe they said they tracked the guitars on the album without any amps. Supposedly he got the really dry sound and the squeals he wanted for songs like "Attack of the Ghost Riders" and "Do you believe her" by going through a fuzz pedal and direct to the board.
I can't find the original article, but I'm sure I remember Sune saying he wasnt happy with any of the mic'ed amp sounds he was getting. in the studio (I know they've been using Fenders for live shows).
I'm not sure if that recording setup carried over for Chain Gang.

Excellent photos, but I think this is sort of old now, while on tour a few years back The Raveonettes had their van broken into had pretty much all their gear stolen. Including some 60's Jazzmasters and a real old Grestch. ouch.

(more here The Raveonettes Gear & Van Stolen in Brooklyn)

Nowadays the set up is a lot more simple, and it'll probably take a while to get back to its former glory.

there are some photos hear of the newer stage The Raveonettes Live at Bowery Ballroom Photos - a set on Flickr

They now play with just a backing track, and quite often with the stand up drummer, sometimes just a single guitar and voice! Its a really good show.
