also, what kind of an SG is the one belonging to Brian Bell on the inside of the cover of the blue album? it's a gibson, and it's leaning on a marshall jcm900 with 4x12 cab.

no pedals in that picture. was the blue album overdrive/distortion just amp distortion? it sounds weird to me, coumo had a mesa boogie mark 1 or 2 head with a marshall 4x10 cab (it looks like an 8x10).

thoughts or opinions?
Just go to weezer.com its all there.

definately not. theres not a lot of chance of getting their sound out of a pedal but my advice is
1. Dont copy them
2. Buy a vintage mesa head; or
3. Get an overdrive pedal. its the second cheapest option but you wont nail their sound it's virtually impossible when a band uses vintage gear.

Actually, the best is to get a Marshall 6100 head. He used that live after the Blue Album came out. It is like a cross between a Mesa and a Marshall, only with more gain capacity than either. It can achieve that kind of Muffy sound, but crunchier with more definition and faaaaar more articulation.

the weezer sound is just one of those things

u'll never duplicate in a pedal

listen to them live, they have just any old distortion sound, but on the record, its that magic

i've already nailed their sound, just get basically any mild overdrive pedal, or in my case, amp with overdrive channel, just crank it, use the neck pickup on your guitar (humbucker prefferably) and bam,
you've got the datsuns tone, its that simple

i also know that they use marshall 1987x heads, but they could be jmp master volumes or 1959slp's, i can't really tell cause they all look the same

The Datsun's are pretty good, Harmonic GEnerator Intermodular was okay but their new sobng like a "MF from hell" blew me away.

oh yeah

i'm glad you liked "mf from hell" i can play every single release by the datsuns, but there's only 4 so its not hard
i like their other songs too though, like,
super gyration
harmonic generator
in love
and of course mf from hell

they're playing near here in new zealand on october 23rd, my b-day is the 15th so fingers crossed i get a ticket! ( although the odds of that happening are about 14 in 500)
