What particular Gretsch model did Chris Cornell use for "Black Hole Sun"?

What particular Gretsch model did Chris Cornell use for "Black Hole Sun"? A particular product number and finish would be ideal, as I want to read reviews on it and determine why he chose "that" guitar to use for that era.

I watched the video and it looked like a yellow-ish Gretsch Jet. Was this a one-off custom he had made or was it some obscure vintage one?

I think it's very odd that he played one of those, considering how heavy Soundgarden was in the 90's alternative scene.

Here's the video for reference:

i don't know if it's vintage or a reissue, but he's using a gretsch duo jet in sparkle gold.

He also heavily used Telecasters for the Superunknown album... You have to keep in mind that Soundgarden's heavyness did not mean gobs of gain, presence and tightness. They had a more sludgy, vintage Black Sabbath tone.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Gretsch was just for the video; pretty much every photo of him live has him with a black Tele

according to several articles it was one of his favourite guitars that he lost in his divorce to his wife / sound garden manager.

he got it back in a court settlement a few years ago.

but yes he did use quite a few tele's most notably a black one.

Yeah, lots of teles, Sparkle Jet and Jazzmasters too. As to exactly what he used on that trac - guess you had to be there

Just checked a few live videos of the song. The Gretsch does indeed come out; either the gold sparkle or a silver sparkle model.

A lot of the sound of that band came from a guitar I've used many, many times, a 1966 Guild S-100. It's so similar to an SG, but it's a great guitar none the less.

1) Mudhoney thought Gretsch was a-ok, can't get much more grunge than that.

2) I'm pretty sure that was a video guitar. Live/tv footage from that era would be a better indicator. Gretsh's look great, so they're popular for video shoots.

3) Are we certain Cornell played on the album?

Yeah he definitely did a fair bit of guitar on Superunkown... I don't think (not sure) that he did so much on the earlier albums but he definitely did a lot on that one.
