I am looking for a combo, all tube, preferably a 1x12, or 2x12, nothing too large. I love fender amps for their clean tone, but I don't care to much for their overdrive channels. I've been out of the 'amplifier loop' for a while, so I'm not sure what's new and awesome. My budget is around $500-$600, and I need something with at least 2 channels, clean, and a thick creamy OD. I play a dynamic style, where I will be footswitching, so It'll definitely need a foot switch. Recommendations anyone?

I think it's easier to play single coils songs with humbucker than the other way around. It's nice to have more than one guitar but I'd like to hear your thoughts on getting through a gig with one guitar. I feel just as comfortable with 2 pickups as I am with three, even though there are a lot of cools sounds on a Strat. It really comes down to the bridge pickup for me. I think the bridge-middle combination is a good alternative to a single coil bridge. I've never played a guitar with coil splitting.

I just came up with an idea on building a kill switch type pedal into my signal chain. Without going into too many details, I'm currently running a three line parallel fx system each with their own uses. On the third line I want to build a foot switch with a selectable momentary switch and was wondering if anyone has seen any or had any pointers on types of switches used or any other features that I may have not thought of to make it better. Since I'm thinking its going to be completely passive (requiring no power) it shouldn't be too hard to make unless I missed something. Cheers.

After about 20 minutes of playing, the volume drops out almost completely. It still passes signal, but very quiet. I notice it gets hot, but sometimes it'll come back after about 10 minutes even if I leave it on.
Any idea what's wrong? I whacked the tubes with a pencil and nothing happened.

Hey guys,

I've actually been around before but couldn't remember my old account (its been awhile) so I went ahead and created a new one. Any help with this would be extremely appreciated.

I'm currently working on a Java application for a school project that will allow me to record guitar (or bass, keyboard, any analog sound basically) into a sound file. Java is set up to default read recording data from your computer's microphone. My problem is, I don't have anything except the onboard microphone on my laptop, and as you can imagine, its fine for running small tests, but actually trying to record guitar sounds awful. I'm on a very tight budget so I'm not looking for something thats going to allow me to make pristine sounding recordings, just a basic microphone setup for my laptop that will allow me to record electric or acoustic guitar at fair quality.

I also imagine I would need some sort of mixer or DI box to plug into my laptop along with the microphone? I know a lot about computers but absolutely nothing about recording sound.

Seeking pedalboard tips

Hello everyone,

my board consists of: Big Muff USA, TubeScreamer TS9, MXR Phase 90, Boss GE-7, Digitech RP 255 (for FX such as Whammy and such), Line 6 DL6 and additionally Digitech Jamman (old version).

Now I have some questions:

1. Is this a good order?

2. Most of the times, my guitar signal sounds very silently. It is as if it is extremely filtered. By what, i do not now.

3. The RP255 can be used as a volume pedal or reverb pedal. Is this a good idea? Or should i put the multifx close the the first pedals of set it up even as the first pedal??

Thanks

So I had two TC Nova Delays. Found them too noisy for my use, so I sold them. For most people they weren't that noisy, but I just seem to be really anal about it!!

I used to have a DD7 and that too was noisy. Not massively so, but a low level white-noise wooshing sound - it wasn't THAT noticable until you compared it against just plugging straight into the amp.

Putting it in the FX loop isn't an option. I like going into the front of a distorted amp.

So... are all the DD units like this? Particularly the DD5 because of the tap-tempo input.

I have a Boss RV-3 which is a delay+reverb combo, and it does not produce noise in the same way, but also does not have tap tempo; hence the reason for asking!

Should I just grow a pair of balls and accept that they're gonna be a little noisy?!

I'm buying my first Telecaster this month, a G&L ASAT Tribute.

While building my own Tele is a goal of mine, I've decided I want to get playing one now, and not have to rent one.

After much shopping around, trying out various American Special and American Vintage, and even a "Hot Rodded" Telecaster with a SD mini-hum in the neck position, I came across the G&L one. It had a lot of unique features that I liked, and were important to me, such as:

-Jumbo frets. All of the Fender ones have skinny vintage frets or modern frets, and this G&L had massive ones.
-Individual brass barrel saddles. Compared to vintage style uncompensated, 60's style threaded barrel, or modern Strat-style saddles, these are exactly what I'm looking for.
-Vintage-style bridgeplate. This is the kind that can mount an "ashtray" cover over the bridge, not that I plan on using one.
-Agathis/Poplar body with black poly paint job. I might strip this down to check out the grain, and maybe refinish it in a different color (Banana yellow?)
-G&L Tele pickups with adjustable pole pieces. Both are open coil, but the neck pickup is about the same size as a lipstick Tele pickup. Twangy enough for me right now, but not nearly as good as that ash-body American Special I tried out. Looking at Rio Grandes if I do change them out.
-White pearloid pickguard.

I'm sure a few people on this forum have played/owned G&L's before; any advice or comments?

Hey everyone!! It's been a while since my last post but i'm back with another. It's been a bit of a rough year so far(I wont go into any details, but I will say it's nothing to do with any of my music gear just personal stuff.) Anyway I have been working on a guitar build project since mid february a double neck SG style guitar(i'll post a couple of pictures of it.) I was getting ready to start putting in the bridge and tailpiece stud anchors and got to thinking about something, I know that there's a ground going to one of the bridge's but is it just one or will both bridges need to have a ground? If any one out there read's this and can advise me on this I would greatly appretiate it...thank's much.

Check out the pictures, i'm really happy :Dwith the way it came out for my first start from scratch build. I even did the finish and believe me that was a bitch to get it to look the way it does.
