Because I want to invest my money in a nice American made guitar while I have time to blow money (pre-college savings). I've been looking at Gibsons and the way I understand it, they have crap QC and they're WAY overpriced. Just kind of wondered what were some great American guitars for the price... I kind of want something a bit classy, but versatile.

Like? I don't want to waste thousands on a guitar. I just want a guitar that I can play that plays and sounds great and I won't feel TOO bad about dinging it up (I'm a clutz!) So I don't want anything that's too expensive, because I would hate it to be in my hands (aka in danger). Basically a workhorse.

No offense, dude, but it looks like you got plenty of guitars there that play great and you shouldn't care too much about dinging up...imho.

Thanks, I'm actually wanting to snag an American, though... Why? To be honest... NO LEGIT REASON beyond me wanting an American made guitar. Like I said, I just don't want to dish the cash out for a Les Paul.

Actually, yeah, a bit. But I thought their US line was temporarily discontinued? I've even looked at Godin a little bit. (I don't have anything against Canada )

I would look into G&L if I were you. My next purchase is going to be a semi-hollow ASAT.

I just recently picked up an american deluxe strat with an HSS pickup configuration. I like it a lot, and I thought it was very reasonably priced. I got it around 11xx, it was near 1200. It's a beaut. I got the chrome/silver color with rosewood fretboard.

I liked the PRS guitars I looked at also.

Those are a couple of options I consider to be quality. A guitar is such a personal thing that it's hard to say what's "best". I think you kind of have to feel that out for yourself. I personally was not expecting to end up with a fender. I just tried a bunch of stuff over several weeks and the american strat stood out to me as the right one.

Since you are specifying "for the money" I'd say the old Peavey Predator Strat copy. You can get them for $100.00 on eBay and they are American made. They are supposed to be very good guitars. I have no experience with them so I can't say for sure.
Carvin makes very nice instruments and they are priced reasonably although I think their pickups are kinda sterile sounding.
Fender, Gibson and PRS are overpriced, have been for years and will be as long as sheeple are willing to pay for a name on a headstock and think high price = high quality. Samick probably builds more Fenders, Gibsons and PRSs in the Orient than anybody cares to think about anyway.
This site has American made guitars from several smaller vendors and the rants section I'm linking to is an education unto itself:

Here is a link to his guitar inventory:

Peavey Predator = NO!!

G&L = YES!!

G&L's are among the best american made guitars on the market. In their price range, they are absolutely unparalelled. For a 1000 you can get a guitar that blows most production model USA guitars out of the water. Id look into the legacy, ASAT special, and S-500. Or if you want a 2HB guitar the Invader or ASAT Deluxe. Theyre total monsters.

If tone is all in the fingers, I'm just gonna play a Squier through a Gorilla amp from now on.
