NGD (kinda): '65 RI Fender Mustang
"New" as in, "finished building it this evening and realised it's now too dark to take photos." Pics to come tomorrow...promise.
![]() The body and neck are CIJ, with the rest of the parts picked up off online sellers over the past couple of months. It's pretty much stock apart from the knobs (white witch hats), pots (500k instead of 250k) and pickups (Lace Sensor Blue in the bridge and a Silver in the neck). The body's olympic white but the pickguard's white pearl so the whole instrument is very...white. ![]() The only bummer is that the pickguard doesn't fit: it's nearer than a US version but five of the screw holes still don't line up. I guess the CIJ measurements have 'drifted' over the years so I'll have to do the 'drill out and plug with dowel' trick for the remaining screws. Sound-wise, I really like it. The 'out of phase' setting is a bit useless unless you're after a really trebly nasal sound with distortion on but I like the 'in phase' and individual pickup sounds. I even like the bridge position, which is unusual for me. Strung with .10-.46s the shallow neck and shorter scale make it super-comfy to play...with the gain or fuzz ramped up the notes just fly off the frets. It's been occasionally frustrating to put together, but first impressions are it's a lot of fun to play now it's done!

Pics or it didn't happen.
![]() Your build tweets have inspired me to change my own pickups in my PRS. I usually don't do my own guitar work...but you made it sound manageable.

Them offsets are always frustating to put together, adjust and even connect with, most of the time. It's part of their magic. Right on!

Watching old movies, where people smoke, makes me want to smoke. It looks far different from the reality in those old films.

Camera phone's blurry as always, but here's the finished article. You can hardly see the hack job I made of the pickguard!

Looks like a fantastic build dude, good job! My favourite feature has to be the white witch hat knobs; amazing what a cosmetic difference a small component can make. How are those Lace Sensors working out for you? What made you choose the Blue for the bridge rather than the higher-gain Red?

You just had to make me regret selling my Nov. 1965 Fender Mustang
......Sweet guitar build, have to admit! And it's comfy, cause the Mustangs used the same necks as the Jazzmaster and Jaguars...... And Smoking? I'm on the electronic cigarettes, every now and then, I bum one, cause I can't quit

Yeah, the neck's really comfortable. A bit shallower than my Jazzmaster though, which now feels chunky (in a good kind of way) in comparison. It's an 'easy' player while the JM makes me work a bit harder to get the best out of it.
Re: the pickups. I had a blue/silver/red set of Sensors and fitted them to an old Strat and was left feeling a bit underwhelmed by the Red. I wanted a 'thicker' more double-coil kind of tone for the bridge, and the blue balances well with the silver. I still have the red in a cupboard somewhere so I'll try it again someday when I get around to it and see how it compares with the blue.
