p-90 routed guitars vs mini humbuckers

I love p90's , but I love mini humbuckers even more.

my question regards the interchangability of p 90 vs mini humbucker pickups.

If i have a p90 guitar and were to score some mini's , would the mini's drop right in? any extra woodwork? would the new mini's have to be from a LP deluxe or a firebird, or does it matter?

i think they should fit right in without any extra woodwork ie routing or adding braces or something...best person to ask would be someone at your local store or a tech, since no one here seems to like responding to questions as much. come on guys!

Les Paul Deluxes came about when Gibson was only manufacturing Goldtop Les Paul reissues with P-90's. They relized the demand for humbuckers on Pauls, so they decided that they needed to convert the Goldtops to have some. The only problem this posed was that the guitars would have to be sold at increadibly high prices due to all of the extra work that was needed to be done, so somebody high up thought "Why don't we just cut some P-90 covers and put in those mini-humbuckers we've got on some Epiphone semi-hollow bodies. This worked, and there was no extra work needed that would drive the cost up. So, there you go, Mini-Humbuckers fit in P-90 slots, and you know the origin of the Les Paul Deluxe

Yes and no. If I remember correctly many of the "soap bar" P90s are mounted on routed bodies. The "dog ear" mounted P90s are not. I know that a mini will drop into a P90 routed body. You will have a little more fiddling to do with an LP Jr or an ES 330 or such because of the pickup hight adjustment springs and hardware on the minis.
