one of THE single best sounding guitars i ever owned. i owned a series 3. there were four series made. for info go to www.univox.org.

also go to www.eastwoodguitars.com and myrareguitars.com. eastwood makes what is alledgedly a better version of the high flyer for often cheaper than old (who knows if they really work) uni's on ebay. and the prices guitar stores online charge for them, often over 600 bucks is REDICULOUS.

the reason i no longer own this hi flyer is that the neck was thin, practically square/flat, and just hard as hell to play on. alledgedly the eastwood company has made a thicker more rounded neck that is supposed to eliminate this problem. i just bought a stormbird from them and its an amazing guitar. i hope to get a sidejack (what they call the hi flyer) at some point in the near future. specifically blueburst. its awesome.

I would be very leary of an old Univox. I have played quite a few and owned a couple over the years. Everyone I every played was complete and utter trash. In a word cheap. Untunable, unusable, poorly designed plywood monstrosities with bad necks and horrible hardware. Good only for taking a picture and that's even subjective.

You may want to look into the Tym Guitars' (http://www.tymguitars.com.au/guitars.html) Wosrite series. They seem better made than the Eastwood, although they are more expensive. The High Flyers I played in shops years back were terrible--very cheap and not in a good way I'm sure there were good High Flyers out there but they're not a guitar I'd be inclined to get off e-Bay.

I had an Eastwood and it was a horrible guitar. The Tym guitars look great though.

The Tym Johnny does look great. I'd wondered about Eastwood since they couldn't seem to comprehend that Johnny Ramone played a Mosrite not a Univox

those tym guitars are awesome. but they are also about 4-5x more expensive than the eastwoods. their johnny model (tym) looks great!

the univox i had i traded an old keyboard for. after the trade they paid me $25 to take the uni. the uni was marked $110. i ended up selling it for 300. for the price it was an amazing guitar. yeah, it felt like a plank of plywood with a horrible neck attached but it sounded amazing. it stayed in tune most of the time too as long as you didnt use the whammy. again, with a better neck it would still be one of my main guitars.

i got a univox hi-flyer, when i got it, it was absolute ****, the tuners are like the one on sears mini-acoustic toy guitars, the pickup literally fell apart (the cover came off) and the neck was sooo warped, (how warped was it?) i could fit my thumb under the strings at the 12th fret without touching them.. with that said, i put some new schaller tuners on it, loaded it with a high out hb in the bridge and a single in the neck, with a custom plate, then did some SCARY truss rod adjustment, with the wood making noises i never want to hear out of a guitar again, and viola, i love this guitar. still has that univox woody sound to it , but much more reliable, and sooo light.. i would deffinately recomend them, but just be prepared for a little work to get'er to good playing, i even toured with mine.. though i did get some tuning problems near then end of tour.. oh well, still of my fav. guitars i've ever owned

I used to have one...It was decent, but nothing real good. I wouldn't buy another one, unless it was a phase 1. (mine was a phase 3)

Unless you can find one in great condition, DON'T GET IT, YOU'LL REGRET IT.

I got mine in good condition for about $175...Though that was about a year ago, but I don't see how they got so much more expensive in a year?

Also, you might want to check out the vintage epi's for that grunge type thing.

That's my epi ET-270

It's in near mint condition, and it costed $225.

They're not very common, but they're cheap.

They got so damn expensive cause there are pictures of kurt cobain playing one (its like the jack white airline). I love kurt cobain for his music and his kill trend outlooks, but i hate how he is such a music symbol anything he touches is so expensive

I would reccomend Eastwood. I have an Airline reissue from them, and it's a quality guitar.
