What does mahogany planked body mean.
Hey everybody,
I recently aquired a new guitar a glen burton boss. It's bassically a 58 LP JR copy. I know its a cheapy guitar but the price was right and I was curious and just couldn't resist buying it. I must say that after a couple of upgrades it's not a half bad little guitar. But I am curious about something, the specs say it has a mahogany planked body and was wondering just what that means, if anybody out there reads this and can explain I would greatly appretiate it. Thanks,

Mahogany planked means the body is assembled from several different pieces of mahogany and then machined to size. This is approximately how Gibson do things.

NoFroBro nailed it. It's just made from multiple pieces, rather than one.
It sounds cheap, but it's an awful lot more efficient and makes the body stronger (if my high school shop teacher is to be believed). Tonally, it's less of a factor than the paint on the guitar.
