Little Help With JCM 900's!
Evening all having a bit of a problem and wonder if any geeks can offer some advice.
My bass player signed us up to do a battle of the bands competition that his mate was involved in organising and despite not being a fan of these kinda things we all agreed to do it. Now I find out because theres something stupid like 12 bands on everyone has to use the house backline. Which for guitar means using a JCM 900. Problem is I play quite modern hi-gain stuff (think Converge with a bit of Will Haven) and when it comes to those tones a 900 is about as much use as a chocolate hammer. Also I don't own a single distortion pedal, I get all my gain from my amp, and I doubt very much adding a distortion pedal is going to help anyway as I hear the really nasty biscuit tin tone of the 900 is caused by diode clipping in the preamp so pushing more tinny hi gain tone into it isn't going to help I'm told. So my options are thus: a) Use a GE7 eq in front of the amp to get more gain and more low end (not sure this will work) b) put the eq in the FX loop and boost the gain and bass in there or c) I can use a Line6 pocket pod I own as a practice amp put that in front, dial down the gain on the amp and hope it doesn't descend into a fizzy godawful mess or d) Just run the pocket pod into my DI box into the PA which I've never done before and I wouldn't have a monitor so I'd have to hang off the stage and listen to the PA. Any help would be appreciated as the shows on thursday I'm not getting a sound check and I'll be on stage roughly 30 mins after I get to the venue. If anyone sees a thread on here from a guy looking how to remove a J-bass headstock from their colon you'll know why ![]() Thanks in advance.

I can't offer much help but in case you choose option 4 you could use the pod to feed both the PA and the JCM. Even if the JCM doesn't sound as you like, it still will be a fine monitor.

This. The safest way for sure.
