OMG I finally heard a chorus that sounds sweet!

Well, I don't know if any of you remember, but a while ago I told u guys that I didn't like to use chorus. ironically, after I said that I started using it more and more. Yesterday I heard "you got it" by our friend Jimi Hendrix, and I thought "whoa, that is some great sound!" now how can I achieve that tone? Is it chorus or phaser? Pleez get me started with some settings...thanks

Chorus probably didn't exist back then. It's a Rotovibe as far as I know.

It's probably either a UniVibe or an actual Leslie speaker.

Considering chorus pedals weren't invented until the 70's i doubt he is using a chorus.
Hendrix did a lot of stuff with univibes and leslie rotating speaker units.
If you want a sound like that you should probably buy a leslie simulator or univibe-type effect. I can get a pretty convincing univibe sound, similar to "machine gun" out of my diy small stone at a faster setting.

some people are so out to shoot people down in here. henrix did use chorus as it was invented befor the 60s but not inb pedal form. hendrix's producer contacted george martin the beatles producer about the similar chorusy sounds on the beatles records and was told it was in an early bbc handbook. this effect of chorus is a tape based effect and was originally done with tapes not a pedal. so considering it was invented before the 60s it probably was.

That's called flanging, is it not? 'Cause Hendrix is known for using alot of tape flanging in the studio.

This is slightly off topic, but I hear some similar chorus-type guitar lines on the Beatle's white album ("Dear Prudence" & "Happiness is a Warm Gun" in particular). I'm guessing they were either using a leslie, or just double-tracking. Does anyone know for sure?

Two playback heads, spaced slightly apart, are playing back the same tape. This produces tape delay; if the heads are close, it produces a very small amount of tape delay.

The heads have a little metal flange on them. Take your fingers and squeeze the two flanges together, moving the heads slightly closer together, then letting them move apart again. This alters the amount of tape delay in a dynamic, phasic way. It's called 'flanging' because the heads actually did have a little metal flange on them.
